I have been working at UPMC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work-life balance is respected, processes exist for almost everything, great networking, positive environment, respectable mission of improving health care, many opportunities to grow by moving around to different areas within the UPMC family

    Cons

Can be tough to move up in your current department/position, lots of red tape, slow pace can be frustrating. Can be hard to connect your effort to the success of the company, due to the large size.

    Advice to Management

Be more nimble to respond to worker feedback. Be more open to adapting existing processes. Continue to respect employees work/life balance, and provide more opportunities to grow in current role/dept.

I have been working at UPMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

always the patients, my coworkers, strong sense of community amongst healthcare staff, Constantly working with some of the best around

    Cons

the management and higher ups show next to no concern about employee morale or conditions, understaffed but we’ll eventually be doing everyone elses jobs anyway

    Advice to Management

listen, be for us and not against us, stop letting duties trickle down the command chain and affecting us. We can only do so much and for so little.

I worked at UPMC as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Never have to work overtime
    -Flexibility
    -Great management
    -Great networking opportunities
-Ability to present in front of executives

    Cons

    -Low pay
-Sometimes work was slow and the day was boring

    Advice to Management

Pay interns more! Literally every other person I knew interning in Pittsburgh was making more money.

I have been working at UPMC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoy the benefits of good healthcare, a competitive pay, job security and a variety of options in my employment.

    Cons

The only con I can think of is working for a large corporation seems to make me more of a number than a person

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to create new ways for employees to be recognized and appreciated for their hard work and efforts

I have been working at UPMC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Every person that I've met on my team and the other surrounding it have been excellent. I haven't met anyone that I've felt I can't learn from. There is also a fair amount of flexibility within UPMC Enterprises in the event that you want to try a different role or you want to join a team with an opening. There are also great benefits (and cheap!) due to be attached to UPMC.

    Cons

While I understand that security is a paramount concern due to handling patient data in a HIPAA-compliant way, there is an intense amount of bureaucracy surrounding the escalation of privileges. As a developer I can end up spending multiple workdays waiting for access to systems that I need.

    Advice to Management

Culture-wise, keep doing what you're doing. The people you are attracting are all smart and great to work with. However you are burning a lot of engineering hours waiting for switches to be flipped.

I have been working at UPMC full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Great work/life balance (work from home opportunity, flexible hours)
-Good healthcare benefits and starting PTO (22.5 days)

    Cons

-Very jaded office culture; most people here seem much less than enthused to be working here which is very discouraging
-Lower pay than you would get doing similar work at other companies
-Lack of investment in employees; did not feel that there was much opportunity to enhance my professional development

    Advice to Management

While it is exciting to be a part of a growing organization, it is important to focus on employees and making them feel valued (and there is a clear sense here that most do NOT). Employees that love where they work will work much harder- there is a lot of inefficiency at UPMC because people just do not care.
