I have been working at UPP full-time

    Pros

Listening to the people, flexible working, investing in modern technology, genuinely wanting to be the best partner for universities, care about the customer

    Cons

It's a small company grown big, and some of the departments have not changed since the 'small business' mentality. We need better Marketing and Communications and more people in IT infrastructure.

    Advice to Management

When people say they're stretched and have been so for over a year, let them hire more people! A better distribution of work will allow more head space and reflection to be proactive and not just reactive.

    I worked at UPP full-time

    Pros

major team spirit - the sites really are a family unit, and nationally there are always opportunities to get site reps together, from awards to organising charitable events. Each site is visited regularly by the top dogs, who make a genuine effort to speak to every person they see individually - rare! They advertise nationally vacancies within the company first, so you get dibs if you want to progress, and they dish... out awards at site level and nationally, along with bonuses for hard workers nominated by colleagues and management.

    Cons

The pay is not the best, sadly, despite the 2.5% annual pay rise guaranteed. Whilst they arrange for staff to attend a lot of 'talks' on important things like mental health or H&S, there is a lack of internal training opportunities that could lead to progression.

    Advice to Management

If someone just got nominated for an award by a colleague, on top of an award, give them a quick call to see if they want to progress and what they'd like to see. Your hard workers are ready to move up the ladder, and just need the opportunity to arise and a confidence boost!
