I worked at UPS part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Tuition reimbursement is just about the only good thing working for UPS. The job is also very easy.

    Cons

Way too many supervisors that are practically still kids (21~ years old) that are never on the same page. Hours that I worked were often shorted and not paid to me. Terrible communication throughout the entire warehouse.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees a decent wage. Get supervisors that actually communicate and are on the same page so the employees do not keep getting conflicting things told to them. Job is very monotonous and thus the turnover rate is incredibly high. Most importantly, RESPECT your employees and stop thinking yall are holier than thou..

I have been working at UPS part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits, Benefits, PAY. Company not only takes care of you but your entire family. Doctor visits $10 co-pay. Pharmacy prescription $5-10. UPS pays 90% of hospital bill employee is responsible for the remaining 10%

    Cons

    Management
    part time - 3 to 4 hrs.
    Full time opportunity after 1-3.5years

Management - alot of stress is put on them which trickles down to employees just like most giant corporation's now a days.

    Advice to Management

It shouldn't be just about the numbers. It should be about both the numbers and the employee's "people" who brings those numbers in.

    Pros

UPS has a very strong union and as long as you don't move in to management, you will work under their protection. This can be extremely helpful in cases where they somehow skip your paycheck (which they will).

    Cons

You will not be rewarded for hard work. The harder you work, the harder they will push you. You are not allowed any days off (vacation or sick) for your first year of employment. When I was hired I made it very clear I would be gone for a week and was told that would be okay. When I returned and didn't receive my paycheck, I found out I was terminated without anyone telling me or my supervisors, so I technically worked a week without even being in their system. My supervisors got me back in the system but I didn't receive the paycheck for that week of work for another three weeks. Pay rates are flat throughout the building so if you are a loader, you'll get paid the same amount as people doing less than half of the amount of work. Supervisors are power hungry and will not treat you as human beings. In the few months I worked at UPS, I saw a total of 4 paychecks go unpaid. Moving into other jobs within the building is completely seniority based. It doesn't matter how good a worker you are, all they care about is how long you've been there.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees. Don't treat them like they aren't human beings. Let people take a day off here and there for vacation or other reasons during their first year.

    Pros

Can be great pay if you're able to advance to driver position. ( Not as easy as it seems though.)

    Cons

Entry level part time package handler jobs keep you working paycheck to paycheck for a long time before advancement opportunities come up.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring unqualified and inexperienced supervision. Acknowledge the hard work your employees are required to do and listen to their input on improving work situations. Keep advancement decisions equal. Some people are promoted with little attention paid to their work ethic, others are ruled out to promote favorites instead, and the standards for advancement vary day to day, from person to person and from gatekeeper (supervisor with personal biases)to gatekeeper (fair supervisor). And, although it's not readily apparent, due to the quantity of females in management positions (salaried), sexism is definitely an issue. The ratio of male to female drivers is troubling. (As a female, I am consistently underestimated, and have to prove myself to each new supervisor I face including those who could promote me. My male coworkers often get away with a much lower quality of work.
