I worked at UPS Freight part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Depending on your position, money can be good, expect to put in 60 plus hours. Union members have it made, specialist and management get the shaft, everyone should be able to go union, or else how will there ever be unity?

    Cons

Dealing with disrespectful people on an ego trip made for complete terror. Hiring supervisors who don't understand logistics and only know because I said so doesn't make for a profitable or peaceful operation.

    Advice to Management

Love your employee and they will love you back, if you see someone struggling then pay it forward so that they can prosper along with the company.

I worked at UPS Freight full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent salary and benefits, otherwise nothing positive about UPS Freight. Do not confuse UPS Freight with UPS Small Package, two completely different companies.

    Cons

A 1960's, military style work environment. Very strict dress code, no facial hair for men, no tattoos, no piercings, etc.. A hostile atmosphere where morale could not be any worse. Older work force with most employees counting the days until retirement. Facilities (brick and mortar) are old, dirty, and outdated. You are constantly held accountable for things completely out of your control. Excessive reporting and paperwork, most of which provide little if any benefit toward improving job performance. High turnover. Five Account Executives over a four year period in one territory. Poor treatment of customers has created a hostile customer base. Management views customers as a necessary evil. Extremely poor customer service, combined with it being nearly impossible to speak with a real person makes the job of an Account Executive that much more difficult. You are forced to financially contribute annually to specific causes and/or organizations (United Way, UPSACS) even if you do not support or believe in said organizations.

    Advice to Management

Blow the whole thing up and start over. Although any advice from subordinates would most likely only fall on deaf ears. Management fails to recognize that with all of their service offerings, assets, and quality people, they could and should dominate the LTL and truckload segments of the transportation industry. They need to listen to their employees (as well as their customers), and encourage and value their ideas and suggestions, which they completely fail to do. I would give Management a negative rating if it were possible.

    Pros

company car ( new every three years), secure job, American Express card for lunches with customers, no risk of being fired for low numbers, status of working for UPS, managers who have been in freight for a long time

    Cons

$3000 high deductible health plan, typical rep receives $6000 in commission per year, not open to new ideas, freight- declining industry, annual stock rewards not given if you leave company, company not concerned with holding on to talent, freight is not UPS's focus.

    Advice to Management

re-do incentive plan to be competitive in industry

I have been working at UPS Freight full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance. I'm able to take off or leave early when needed.

    Cons

Layoffs, Company is only concerned about the bottom dollar, not the workers, unsafe work conditions (mold, ceiling leaking, furniture old and falling apart). Hard to advance unless you know someone in upper management and kiss butt.

    Advice to Management

Make your employees feel more appreciated. Stop sending jobs overseas and out of state just to pay the new workers less money and no benefits.
