I have been working at UPS (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company offers benefits, a decent pay rate for part time, full time opportunities are amazing with an awesome pay rate

    Cons

Schedules are a bit odd which some include 3 in the morning shifts and 6 in the evening shifts. The 3 am shifts allow for more part time jobs

I have been working at UPS part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really good supervisors and co-workers. Business schools could learn something about employee performance from the organic culture at this location. Potential health and welfare benefits and tuition reimbursement. Upward opportunities - UPS likes to promote/develop from within. Reasonable job security. Lower than average employee turnover. Reputable company. World leading logistics/transportation company.

    Cons

Benefits not forthcoming. Ask 10 people, get 10 answers. You are on your own trying to figure it out. Lower wage industry (but employer benefits can offset that to some degree). UPS pushing retirement benefits completely towards 401k's and away from pensions. Young workers with some financial savvy might do OK, but many of us in the lower income world would be better off with a modest pension and a 401k to keep up with inflation. A good financial advisor would not disagree.

    Advice to Management

Somebody please take the lead on informing new employees of union benefits per contracts. A simple welcome aboard letter would be helpful. A short orientation would be better. The only indication that you are part of a National Labor Organization is when dues come out of the paycheck. Is there a member website with login? When does UPS start contributing to the Health & Welfare fund on our behalf? Do you have to wait a year to get health insurance!? Definitely not what I heard when applying, nor is it that mentioned on the local's website under eligibility requirements. Are benefits under one local and the contract with another? Where do I find the labor contract that applies to me? I'm one of the least senior persons with a huge national union at a small facility of a huge global corporation. I don't expect much, but I don't additional reminders of where I stand either.

I worked at UPS full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Paid training, Paid holidays, Great employees and upper management.

    Cons

Needed to dress business professional to sit in a cubical, poor training and need to pass 3 tests with above 90% to keep job.

    Advice to Management

The training needs to be restructured. Too many modules and is not hands on whatsoever. Entire class was still confused after the 6 weeks on what they were doing. Maybe make training more hands on or extend the training period so you don't suffocate trainees.

I have been working at UPS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good service oriented physical job where you can make $125K (with 20 hours of overtime), full health coverage, 8 weeks of vacation and a pension by the time you're 50 (provided you start driving at 21 years old). Everyone's happy to see you because you're delivering something they want and not the bills.

    Cons

It can take a while to become a full time driver
