I worked at UPS Supply Chain Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good pay for union position

    Cons

Too many to name without a publisher, but the Local Management is severely lacking in both honesty and integrity as noted below:
    1) They are constantly late and leave early, as they adjust their own personal schedule to meet their needs, not the office schedule.
    2) Pass their own responsibilities to the hourly personnel because they are not properly trained or qualified to do it themselves, or they just wont do it.
    3) They hire "friends" of management who are not qualified for their position, so they are not held accountable for doing the same job.
    4) Some management personnel can't/won't unload a truck as they DO NOT have to, as they"don't want to drive a forklift" . This has been happening for over 10 year now, and still ongoing.
    5) They decided that non-management personnel has to open/close the facility because they don't want to work their scheduled hours. This is time theft.
    6) They pick and choose when and whom they want to enforce whatever rules/policies they "deem" important.
    7) They have threatened employees with both write ups and termination, both written and verbal, for filing grievances on management.
    8) Created and enabled a very dysfunctional workforce by their continued and flagrant ignorance on being consistent in their implement and enforcement of Company Policies and Procedures.
    9) Corporate Company Management seems to be lacking overall as their is always a "pass the buck" mentality, as "someone else will get to it when they seem fit", or some other senior management person approves it (HR, IE or Corporate, or any combination thereof.

    Advice to Management

UPS-SCS has a yearly Employee Engagement review in place, but HR and Senior Management needs to take a serious look at it to evaluate all local management policies, reviews, as well as what their responsibilities are supposed to be, for all supervisors and managers, and how they are enforced.

    Pros

Good company to cut your teeth on for Operational experience. Learned a lot of what to do and what not to do. Both from the aspect of some UPS choices being good and some being bad.

    Cons

The hours. Expectation for Sups and Managers is 12+...really until the work is complete. Bad news is that the work is never complete.
Little room to move up regardless of education and experience.

    Pros

Established company, good pay, good benefits. Most of the employees are friendly and easy to work with. Company believes in community service.

    Cons

Very demanding, some bosses only focus on the negative, and utilize intimidation tactics to try and motivate middle management...no work-life balance...regularly schedule meetings late at night or on weekends as a means to try to "motivate" management...

    Advice to Management

Recognize positive, stop being negative constantly.

    Pros

If you are ambitious and do your job, you can easily move up in the ranks

    Cons

Even though you can move up easily most of the position are under paid compared to other companies, the management that get paid more than you rarely have any clue on what to do , things change constantly and your supervisor rarely updates you on these changes but will reprimand you for not knowing the changes

    Advice to Management

    Actually under stand the business

    Pros

Good entry level job to get a start in Freight Forwarding. Company car.

    Cons

Still stuck in the former company that UPS aquired named old bad habits and ways.

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like you want to help folks cultivate a career and really do this. There is no career path. Other business units within UPS do not respect or want to work with UPS SCS. Realize your employees are not just robots and don't want to be told what to do. Respect and listen to there opinions and input and maybe you will learn how to be a true Freight Forwarder.
