I worked at UPS (Less than a year)

    Pros

The experience and pay. Possible part or full time employment.

    Cons

Disrespect, negative gossip and rudeness from the drivers. The job description clearly states you are there to assist the driver. There was no teamwork. The driver barely assisted me with delivering packages I felt like a gopher. When I bought it to his attention, he threatened to take me back to my car. I requested to work with a different driver. It's almost like they did not appreciate you being there. I refuse to be mistreated by anyone.

    Advice to Management

Management should remind the drivers that helpers are there to assist with the timely delivering of packages . Not do all of the work and to treat people (helpers)with dignity and respect. I really wanted the opportunity to work for such a reputable company, but there is so much negativity at this particular location.

I have been working at UPS full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Get to work outside and get exercise and interact with customers. Once out on road, you are your own boss and you get to enjoy the day with no one over your shoulder telling you what your doing wrong.

    Cons

No work/life balance. I use the weekends to get things done I couldn't do during the week except when they make Saturday a mandatory work day. It is a thankless job that rewards hard work with even harder work so take your time. Managers don't value you as a person or anything you have going on in your personal life.

    Advice to Management

If you treat your employees better, they will work harder for you.

I have been working at UPS part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Still have really good benefits, dental, vision, and health only cost monthly union dues which is twice the pay rate deducted first paycheck of each month.

    Cons

Must gain seniority to be called in frequently. Without consistently working can not get benefits. Must be able to constantly lift packages with varying weights up to 150 pounds. The pay is no longer competitive, they haven’t adjusted to new wage increases so they have fallen behind on appropriate pay rates. Expect a lot for minimum wage and hard work usually goes unnoticed. They have been coasting off their name and reputation, use to be great company to work for but now have fallen behind.

    Advice to Management

Should be able to identify good workers and make sure all workers are being team players and helping each other in order to make Job easier for everyone.

I worked at UPS as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Pay, Fun work, good benefits for full time employees.

    Cons

Inefficient management of drivers and time.

    Advice to Management

Start the day earlier so Next Day Airs (NDA) can get out faster. Organize package cars that travel to the farthest end of a loop so they can get out the door first. Notify drivers ASAP when volume is low and they are going to be sent home. Don't wait until they drive, sometimes up to an hour or more, to send them a text telling them to "go home and enjoy their day off, volume low."
Get Drivers the tools they need to do the job!(i.e. Dollies, working DIADs, pouches for DIADS, etc..) Don't complain at the Drivers who aren't supplied dollies for being slow on UPS store pick ups. Get it together and help your Drivers be able to do their jobs!

I have been working at UPS full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

36.40 an hour. Average 8 hours per week of over time at 54.60 per hour. Union protection. Made 99,xxx $ last year. excellent benefits package that costs the company over 30k per year. top of the line health benefits. 6 weeks of paid vacation per year. early retirement with a great pension. West coast pension fund is one of the strongest in the nation.

    Cons

overtime can be brutal. zero flexibility with the job. Physical nature of the job can easily lead to injuries if you are not careful. Lots of old guys retire with wore out, broken down bodies. home late and never see your family. lots employees here get divorces.

    Advice to Management

Management is not capable of doing the job that they supervise. Management has wasted billions on technology that did not help me become more productive. Actually helped me become less productive because the technology allowed me to finally work safely without fear of negative consequences.
