    Pros

I served 10 plus years and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I wouldn't have changed a thing.

    Cons

Promotion requirements get adjusted every 4 years or so. Not such a big deal as long as you stay on top of it.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what your doing.

I worked at US Air Force full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, 30 days a year for leave. Got to work with very interesting people in locations around the world. Great on the job training. Lots of career paths to choose from.

    Cons

Mid-level management is redundant more times than not. Transferring jobs/career paths is not easy and not always available. The EPR/OPR (performance rating systems) are hyper-inflated in their worth.

    Advice to Management

Changes to the performance rating system are coming. Rate your subordinates in an objective manner to ensure that this new system does not fail.

    Pros

Never get fired. Easy to look good because of all the dead weight. You will get a lot of time off. Great place to work if you don't want to actually work but still need a big paycheck. Similar to welfare but even better.

    Cons

There are so many things to deal with like the politics, leaders playing favorites, everything is inefficient, culture is inflexible, wasteful, unprofessional, lack of good training, inexperienced leadership.

    Advice to Management

Run it like a business where efficiency and common sense are used not 50 year old outdated and inflexible practices are the rule. STOP WASTING OUR TAX PAYER DOLLARS.

    Pros

See the world and let the government pay you to do it

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the people

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A chance to work with some great people, a chance to contribute, lead people and acquire some critical skills. An opportunity to travel and see the world. A decent salary. Teamwork and camaraderie.

    Cons

Working with some dismal people disguised as leaders; uprooting your family every 2-3 years takes a toll on your family. Friends come and go. No roots. Emotional toll on your children. Deployments can wreak havoc on a family. If you do not have a strong family network, it can be very difficult to survive. Back stabbing people who only care about their careers and are only interested in themselves.

    Advice to Management

Mentor your people, help them succeed, take care of them. Dont treat them as numbers like many so called leaders do.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Excellent leadership development opportunities. Benefits.

    Cons

Highly stressful environment with long periods deployed away from family.

    Advice to Management

Due to limited control over Air Force operations my advice is geared more towards Congress then Air Force leaders. Congress needs to realize that what is best for the country as a whole is not always best for your district or state. If you can't make sacrifices in the best interest of the country then you need to go.
