I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits will far outweigh anything in the civilian sector.

    Cons

You will have to deploy and be away from families

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Shared purpose with fellow workers. Known level of integrity. Amazing opportunities to see and do things that one would normally never see in the course of the normal work environment.

    Cons

Deployments are really hard on families. Moving every two to four years is also really hard on families. The risk of death is probably the worst part.

    Advice to Management

Air Force senior leaders need to learn to say "NO" to taskings that are of no real value to the defense of the nation. Congress needs to start acting like adults and provide consistent funding for Defense and Veteran's Affairs.

I worked at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to work with great benefits. Got to travel all over the world. Worked there over 25 years and loved it. Earned bachelors and masters degree via Tuition Assistance.

    Cons

The moves and separation can be hard on the family.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the lower levels and realize when they are being asked to do things without the proper manning or equipment/training.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Exposure to the HQ processes for better insight, interactions with Congress and improved knowledge on navigating the acquisition and budget systems.

    Cons

It can be pretty chaotic with demands from many people . It is the pinnacle of bureaucracy but bizarrely it can also work quick with the right senior leader attention.

I have been working at US Air Force full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people who love their country. You usually feel like you are contributing to something much bigger than yourself. The commanders go through a pretty intense screening process so there aren't too many bad ones out there (most are really, really good). Great benefits (GI Bill, tax free housing pay, defined benefit retirement plan).

    Cons

Frequent moves (you will probably find yourself moving every 2 to 3 years). Sometimes the Air Force doesn't have the best base locations (North Dakota, Cannon NM, etc). It's a federal agency so there are no shortage of higher level politicians and bureaucrats that want to tinker with it and "make it better."

    Advice to Management

I really liked the last SECAF (Deborah James) and I think I'm going to like the new one even better (Heather Wilson). The politicians and civilian leadership should quit tinkering with the military and let the uniformed leadership make their own decisions about what will make a the Air Force a more capable, combat-ready force.

Keep up the good work go out and shake hands
