I have been working at US Army full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The army takes care of its investment and provides amazing benefits, has taken care of myself and my family very well

    Cons

The army tries to get every last bit of production out of soldiers, tries to accommodate the needs of the younger soldiers (18-20) year olds even though they need to be brought to army standard in terms of toughness

I have been working at US Army full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Federal government provides tremendous benefits, including several health insurance companies to choose from. The schedule for most people at HRC is flexible within core hours. Paid time off starts with 4 hours of sick and 4 hours of annual leave every pay period, plus 10 paid holidays per year. Amount of annual time off increases after 5 years and again after 15 years. Pay is generous for this area. I hear bigger commercial companies in Louisville will pay better, but the benefits are too good here to leave.

    Cons

Leadership is top-heavy and guidance is every-changing. There is lots of red tape and process paralysis. There are incompetent employees that stifle those that want to succeed and do good things. A few bad apples have failed their way up, but current leadership is cleaning up that mess. It's easy to get stuck in one area or position because of hiring freezes and furloughs.

    Advice to Management

Continue cleaning up the mess. Work on streamlining processes. Consolidate duplicate efforts / teams.

    Cons

    deployments
training (time in the field away from nice things)
    work NEVER stops
    24 hour guard shifts

    Advice to Management

Incentive program to keep good employees
Promotions should be based on job knowledge, not a points system.
