    Pros

Great office to work if you do not get involve in all the politics.

    Cons

Hard to move around without knowing someone but if you work hard you should be able to find what you need,

    Advice to Management

Create career ladder positions for lower grades not just higher ladder.

    Pros

Ability to make decisions and feel like I am making a difference. For the most part management is supportive and respectful. In this office we are able to flex our schedule and also to work from home if we so desire.

    Cons

There a very few supervisors that are on power trips or indifferent (lazy). The work can be very complicated, and oftentimes stressful, and requires a lot of training.

    Advice to Management

Continue to provide ongoing training and support your employees.

    Pros

Working to make a difference, great benefits, pay is OK. Will get paid no matter what even if there is a government shutdown since the agency is self-funded.

    Cons

Upper management can be very slow and more bureaucratic than the government might even consider normal. Promotion potential is very lacking outside of DC.

    Advice to Management

The most dire issue is the lack of older upper management to integrate and cooperate with younger, newer recruits. Half the reason why young employees leave is because they are made not to feel included or worth training.

    Pros

The employees at this agency are committed to the mission. Also, it consistently ranks higher in morale compared to the other agencies within DHS. This is a huge plus.

    Cons

It is an immigration benefits agency among many law enforcement centric agencies within DHS.

    Pros

Benefits, training and teamwork. I've worked for several government agencies and USCIS is the best so far.

    Cons

Management just needs to relax a bit and be trained on what exactly their subordinates are doing before giving negative feedback.

    Advice to Management

Learn all aspects of the job.

    Pros

Great schedule, somewhat easy going, nice people to work with.

    Cons

Some micro-managing and some low morale from long term employees.

    Advice to Management

    Try not to micro manage

    Pros

I loved the people at USCIS and had a great time, the work was challenging
I wasn't there for long (personal reasons) but felt that I could grow my career there
    The compensation was good
Like every organization - there were good managers and bad managers - I thought my supervisor was one of the good ones

    Cons

Government employment can attract people with the wrong attitude who make things more difficult
The bureaucracy creates a drag on the system - like most government agencies

    Advice to Management

Make time for managers to proactively coach poor performers

    Pros

Rewarding work. Flexible schedule. Friendly and collegial atmosphere.Potential for training and professional growth.

    Cons

None. Just do your work, be a professional and you will be rewarded.

    Advice to Management

It would be great to advocate the process of giving a preference for hiring to candidates already working in your field office.
