    Pros

While it may have its frustrations, you cannot beat the health insurance. Job security like with any branch of the military.

    Cons

Red tape like with any government agency

    Advice to Management

Listen to the "boots on the ground" before implementing changes.

I have been working at US Coast Guard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences. Room to grow, room to evolve, friends for life. I've been to places with the Coast Guard that I never expected to go in my youth.

    Cons

While I enjoyed the constant moves to new cities, it was difficult to maintain a steady relationship. Not for everyone. Recommend a strong family life going in.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at US Coast Guard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities including advancement and benefits both inside and out.

    Cons

Low pay, on call 24/7, inconsistent work hours.

    Advice to Management

I would take a long look at the local leadership levels E-7, E-9. I have seen many development opportunities squandered by chiefs and above who are coming to work waiting out retirement or advancement.

Low pay, away from friends and family for long periods of time, just a cog in a large machine, thinking in the box required.
