    Pros

    Some guys are great and are open minded try to improve work but in nice good ways.

    Cons

    Some officers and NCO don't have flexibility to work and understand the Middle East and Gulf.

    Smallest of the Military organizations, so personnel/supervisors truly know & look out for their people

    Cons

    Least funded of all the military organizations

    Advice to Management

    Figure out a way to avoid the LT/LCDR promotion/bottleneck blunder in the future.

    I worked at US Coast Guard (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Ability to get multiple qualifications and do a number of interesting jobs.
    -Pay scale is set, so you know where you stand what what the next step up is.
    -Educational benefits are great.

    Cons

    -Coworkers with lack of motivation (lack of qualifications) can create a much heavier workload for others, making it a somewhat hostile work environment at times.

    Pros

    Rewarding military career. Ability to get secret clearance, leadership experience and rapidly scaling responsibility. Good US locations to work.

    Cons

    Must frequently move like all military members. Must wear a uniform every day to work. Work hours can be sporadic depending on your position and career track.

    Advice to Management

    No target-able advice to management. Management varies and is not very consistent. In general this job is very family friendly and understands problems and conflicts military members have.

    Civilians are not treated well and the civilian senior leadership is inept.

    Overhaul the SES corps and remove poor leaders.

    Assignment to great locations in the United States

    Cons

    The work can be demanding and the work ethic of many Coast Guardsmen can leave them working many hours beyond what they are required. This stems from the lack of resources in the Coast Guard.

    Allow for opportunities to overcome stumbles in a career.
    Provide more opportunities for leadership development and professional development.
    Increase opportunities for industry qualifications.
    Align qualification processes with merchant mariner requirements to ensure shipboard personnel become merchant mariner certified.
