I worked at US Customs and Border Protection full-time for less than a year

    Pros

None was not hired do your homework about their processes. There are multiple articles high lighting stories like mine. Beware!

    Cons

Polygraph Has 68% fail rate, their interrogation will last over 10 hours. Compared to 90 min with other departments. They are short 20,000 agents according to articles. Have a TS Clarence and could not pass.

I have been working at US Customs and Border Protection full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

High Salary. Great Benefits. Non competitive advancement to GS-12. No education requirements for Supervisors. Job Security. The academy is really easy and no physical requirements once in the field. Being overweight/ out of shape is perfectly normal. Get paid to do absolutely nothing some days.

    Cons

Incompetent Supervisors that advanced through the ranks by the agency's growth. Redundant training. Since, nobody really gets fired if someone gets in trouble or messes up they usually end up being a supervisor. Mindless repetitive work. Health and Physical fitness is not a priority. Hiring process is very long.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Get a college degree.

I have been working at US Customs and Border Protection

    Pros

    Pay and benefits, good training

    Cons

Extremely poor upper management, dangerous working conditions, poor leadership, lack of support, poor experience of lower graded agents.

    Advice to Management

Let the air and marine division stand alone within the Department of Homeland Security or find a way to get the border patrol out of the organization. Air and Marine should be an investigative agency
