I worked at US Department of Homeland Security full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to meet a lot of famous people in Chicago which is kool. The company helps to cover parking costs. There are good benefits.

    Cons

You have to feel comfortable patting people down and going through their personal items. Even though you earn vacation time, it isn't easy to take it.

    Advice to Management

I guess the advice would be to Human Resources: quit lying to people. If an employee chooses full time they are not allowed to go back to part time as told . I saw this happen to a lot of people.

I have been working at US Department of Homeland Security full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good mission, good location (for now), flexible hours, relatively easy-going attitudes (generally speaking), has an OK work-life balance

    Cons

Lackadaisical approach to training, don't expect to get much guidance, not exactly the friendliest environment (ex. asking questions not encouraged), morale isn't very good- many people openly talk about searching for new jobs

    Advice to Management

There really should be a better approach to training employees instead of a fly by the seat of your pants 'when it happens, it happens' sort of attitude.
