I have been working at US Department of Labor full-time

    Pros

Job flexibility and leave programs are great.

    Cons

Poor performers can remain in job without consequences. Top performers are awarded with more work because management fails to deal with poor performers.

I have been working at US Department of Labor part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Work-Life Environment, many opportunities to advance your professional resume with online seminars available as an employee. Accrued PTO, benefits are a plus.

    Cons

Not able to work over 32 hours, thus not full time. Continuous evaluation of work, which is good for integrity but it is a drain on a person.

I have been working at US Department of Labor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, good salaries, nice people and nice facilities. They're doing a lot of work to get computer systems updated and modern. Good place to work.

    Cons

Minor stuff: Hard to park at, traffic is a bear in downtown Dallas, cafeteria has awful, low quality food. It can be hard to move around in the agency unless you are willing to move to DC but that's common with government work.

    Advice to Management

Work on succession planning and cross-training more staff.

I have been working at US Department of Labor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to advance up the ladder; great gym; affordable child care; under Tom Perez, we had leadership that cared about employment satisfaction.

    Cons

The building is frankly disgusting. Nothing that they can really do about it. It's just old, and in the middle of the city. No amount of cleaning would get rid of all the roaches and rats. Also, relationships are very important; which is a con if you're not accustomed to creating and fostering them.

    Advice to Management

Please reconsider negotiating with GSA about moving the location. It's just not really a great environment health-wise.
