I have been working at US Department of Veterans Affairs full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You get to be a part of something grrater than yourself and participate in a truly amazing health care system. The wages and lifetime benefits.

    Cons

Politics of working in bureaucratic government agency...threat of budget cuts...if you can muddle through that though you can make it anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Your line workers are hard working...but there is always going to be a few bad seeds that will try to get away with doing nothing and try to get paid. Focus on motorpool....that is a lazy and incompetent department and yet an important one because they provide transportation to all the community health care workers. They are supposed to maintain vehicles for government workers that provide healthcare in community....they are not maintaining vehicles and this makes it more difficult for community workers to provide excellent care because their equipment they need to do their duties is not properly maintained. You should never have an RN or LCSW take a car in to shop and do an oil change or have to get brakes done. This needs to stop and motorpool needs to do their JOB because they get paid a very decent salary to do just that.....

I worked at US Department of Veterans Affairs as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly environment, good work culture. The facility is located at very nice location. Permanent employees have lots of benefits.

    Cons

I worked for a short duration, didn't see any negative. Just have one canteen, hopefully, the medical facility can incorporate a bigger canteen.

    Advice to Management

If they could make hiring process little easier, I was on a contract for a short project but background scrutiny was very high.
