      Pros

Working at the VA is an excellent opportunity to be exposed to a variety of disciplines and experiences. The salary and benefits are some of the best available. You are encouraged to advance in your career and provided plenty of opportunities to complete trainings that the VA provides.

      Cons

The VA system is complex and not easy to navigate for either the Veterans or the employees. It's a very large organization that gets weighed down with red tape and it can be difficult to do your job on some occasions.

            Pros

Relaxed, slow, many opportunities to learn, relocatable, great benefits.

            Cons

Everything moves really really slow. Leading a project can be tedious since there are so many red tape and people that doesn't care about their job. It feels like nothing gets done as there are too many people that doesnt want to work. I cant say this for every VA, but that's the culture I have seen at the hospital I work at. There is no accountability. Everyone is reloading their pointing finger as they are trigger happy to blame someone else.

                  Pros

The VA Portland is dedicated to providing high-quality care to Veterans who have served our country. Working for the VA Portland is a great way to make a real difference in the lives of these heroes and their loved ones.

                  Cons

High workload and stress levels. The VA Portland is a large and busy facility, and employees often have to work long hours to meet the needs of Veterans. This can lead to high levels of stress and burnout. Bureaucracy and red tape. The VA is a government agency, and as such, it is subject to a lot of bureaucracy and red tape. This can make it difficult to get things done, and it can be frustrating for employees. Understaffing. The VA Portland is often understaffed, which can make it difficult for employees to provide the best possible care to Veterans. This can also lead to increased workloads and stress levels.

                      Alex L.

Applied for a job a few weeks back, got a call from HR yesterday morning about an interview next week. She mentioned she'd shoot me an email with all the interview details, but so far, my inbox is empty. Assuming I'll hear from her early next week, is it normal for them to expect me to show up for an in-person interview on short notice, like couple days?
