Pros
People actually do care and are committed about their work. A lot og great people work for the Forest Service
Cons
It is dependent on Congress for funding which can be exasperating.

Pros
The mission of the Forest Service is quite commendable. I wholeheartedly believe in the beauty and necessity of public lands, so it is great that there is an agency out there working to protect our land for future generations. For my work as a technician, I got to be hands on with many of the projects that were going on in my particular management unit and Forest.
Cons
Sometimes the most beneficial ideas and daily practices get lost in the bureaucracy of the agency. Hiring does not occur directly by the higher ups who are actually leading the crews, so it is easy to end up with people who aren't necessarily qualified for the job at hand.
