Great Life Work Balance. Little Professional Growth

Nov 27, 2022 - Assistant Chief Counsel in Miami, FL
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Work-Life Balance. Good environment for an extrovert who is curious about the world. Colleagues don't take themselves too seriously and are willing to help each other. Everyone comes to the agency with their eyes open. One-Two week details to other offices are fun low stakes funded work trips.

    Cons

Being part of an ineffective and politically controversial agency and wondering if you are squandering your talents.... probably. Constant shift from D.C. on how to prioritize cases. With 8 - 12 million undocumented non-citizens in the U.S. and a backlog of 2 million cases, your impact can feel pointless.

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Huge Salary, benefits, paid holidays, no nights or weekends. Recession proof.

    Cons

Very, Very long and hyper-competitive promotion process that can take many years to navigate. Most people probably quit or give up after rejection after rejection.

    Meaningful Work and Good Pay

    Jul 28, 2022 - Special Agent
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Overall a great job with many opportunities and excellent pay. There is a wide variety of investigations, which is nice if you don't particularly care for drug trafficking cases.

    Cons

Upper management is not great and there is definitely still a good old boys club when it comes to promotions and overseas assignments. This part has definitely improved, albeit slowly.
