I worked at US Lacrosse full-time

    Pros

    Colleagues are passionate and smart

    Cons

Disconnected from the customers on the ground. Volunteers dictate too much of the everyday working with very pointed perspectives that don’t necessarly reflect the larger lacrosse market. Lacks clear direction from leadership.

I worked at US Lacrosse full-time for more than 6 years

      Pros

These people are very dedicated to the sport of lacrosse. The passion is obvious. Amazing facilities Dedication to sport science is clear

      Cons

Very much an "insiders" organization. There is very little room for real-world experience or perspective and those who do not conform are quickly pushed out. Non-profit pay scale The donors rule. This is one of the primary reasons they have such a hard time making any real progress. Rampant institutional sexism. The org caters to an environment of us (Men's Game) vs them (Women's Game) mentalities and allows...

      Advice to Management

Get out of your bubble. Stop putting friendships and personal loyalties in front of what is best for the organisation. Steve is a great guy, but honestly, he should move on. It would be in the best interest of USL and Steve's own mental health.

I have been working at US Lacrosse full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

The people at USL and the chance to do something that contributes positively to youth sports in the US. Challenges are varied, something different every day. Enjoy the job despite the heavy workload, usually don't feel stressed.

      Cons

Heavy workload for the pay. Maternity/paternity policy and cost of insuring family is bad (especially since the pay is below market average for position and level of experience)

      Advice to Management

Invest more in your employees and reconsider your benefits package offerings and you will reduce turnover. People want to work here but they can't stay if it means negatively impacting their families with low pay and substandard benefits.

      Cons

Leadership is disjointed. There are some good ones but they are not super effective as a team.

      I worked at US Lacrosse

      Pros

Great place for work/life balance. Passionate people who embrace core values. Growing sport with job security of working for a governing body. Fun environment to be a part of.

      Cons

There were some challenges of keeping up with a fast-growing sport undergoing a lot of changes. But the company did what it could to mitigate those difficulties.

      Advice to Management

Though it runs counter to the operating procedures of a 403cb company, break compensation structure for talented employees who make a larger-than-normal impact on the organization.
