I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you like a challenge and being pushed to your limits, this career is for you. If you ever feel like as if you have mastered a task or job, there is always something else to get involved in. Being in physical shape is the top priority.

    Cons

If you can truly take care of yourself, especially the basics, then this is not for you. Most people who enjoy the Corps have a family history of it and early exposure. Most who are new to it tent to not like it. If you aren't particularly highly fit, you're pretty much going against the grain trying to got up in rank. Most leaders are idiots.

    Advice to Management

    Promote on brains, not bron.

extremely depressing and stressful, minimum wages, tough physical training, cramped living quarters, favoritism, keeps you from family, mediocre food, extremely demanding, low satisfaction jobs,

    Advice to Management

    Chill Out! Stop Spazzing!

I worked at US Marine Corps full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Love the people you are with. Best friends a person could wish for. Never would regret my service, even my injuries, because I helped the people around me.

    Cons

Every career Marine tried their hardest to ruin every other Marine's career. Staff ncos and upper officers are some of the worst individuals I have ever experienced in my life. All the good Marines left because of their superiors.

    Pros

Full-time work, training, travel, opportunity for growth. Overall, a fun and exciting place to work. The opportunities to grow are numerous.

    Cons

No over-time, long hour, sporadic leadership, incomplete training, no match in 401K like program. Subjective growth not actually based on performance. Out-dated promotion program. Management is willing to lie and cover-up failings of juniors for the sake of looking good. Recommendations for change are ignored until critical failures occur, resulting in the loss of life, employment or advancement potential.

    Advice to Management

Review battalion, company and platoon leadership. Provide effective leadership training, and hold "leaders" accountable for failings, and do not pass along punishment to the individuals who were failed.

    Cons

Never seeing your family, mission always comes first. Hard to advance away from simply being a musician.

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of the skill sets shown by junior troops.

    Pros

Good benefits that most people don't care into account.
    -Sub-par healthcare.
-TSP (only good choice if you're staying in).
-Tuition Assistance (good luck getting approved).
    -30 days vacation.
    -New learning opportunities.

    Cons

    Too many to list.

-Your personal time is not important.
    -Leadership hates you.
    -Too much down time.
-Lack of active career development (in specific MOS's).
-Good luck taking those 30 days of vacation per year.

    Advice to Management

Where do I start? Seek out the people with some sort of intelligence and treat them accordingly. What is the point of striving to be proficient in a job when you get treated like your low performing peers?
