    Pros

    Camaraderie, Social Capital, A feeling of belonging and importance, Looks good on resume, centered on values, great prospects to move up in the chain if you are a natural athlete.

    Cons

    Culture centered on bravado and masculinity, lots of hazing, lots of incompetent senior enlisted members (some are illiterate), time spent in the field and away from family hurts, getting out is tough socially and psychologically. They do however, create outstanding citizens (for the most part).
