I have been working at US National Guard full-time

    Pros

People, people, people. Just a great place to work. Laid back. A workplace with understanding that life happens. People who want to teach. Everyday is different. You can go in an entire different career field if you choose.

    Cons

Getting here so early... We don't have things like a private business can indulge on. We have the basics since we are a tax payer entity. No frills working for the government.

    Advice to Management

Keep on with whats working. Do not change a thing because it would cause a mass exodus of people that would leave. Moral is good.

I have been working at US National Guard part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Get to travel and meet new people.
Great experiance that I can use to help my civilican life.
    Great values system.
I feel like I'm actually contributing to something much bigger than myself that will help make things better for my family in the future.

    Cons

Extremely Senior upper management doesn't seem to understand what really goes on my level.
Takes time away from family, and sometimes on EXTREMELY short notice.

    Advice to Management

    DON'T MICRO MANAGE EVERYTHING!!!

    Pros

The NG provides great opportunities for a post-secondary education at little or no cost. Great progression and leadership training for future careers. This is a part time organization with opportunities for full-time.

    Cons

As a military entity, there is always a potential for deployment. Not an organization to be a part of "just for the benefits". Must be willing and able to dedicate at least one weekend a month and 2 weeks per year for duty, which requires an absence from home.

    Advice to Management

From my view, there appears to be a glass ceiling in the senior leadership positions. More transparent efforts should be made by the HR office to mentor minority junior leaders for growth.
