I have been working at US National Guard full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Generous leave program, great healthcare

    Cons

Federal Technician jobs require membership in the National Guard, which isn't as simple as it sounds. I have two separate jobs, benefits packages, salaries, etc for the same organization, wearing the same uniform. It can be a challenge figuring out which status I'm on each day.

    Advice to Management

Title 5 or AGRs - eliminate FedTechs and pick one. Either we're active duty service members or we're civilians, not some weird combination.

    Pros

Friendships that last even after leaving.
Great training and co-workers. Tough but fun and rewarding. You get back more than what you put into it.

    Cons

Not recognized as well as active duty service members. Even though most of the service members in Iraq and Afghanistan are national guard and reservists.
