I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay, benefits, travel, great and smart people, lots of education, lots of responsibility straight out of college, in general the work can be monotonous but every so often some really interesting stuff comes up.

    Cons

Travel (forced), long hours, sea time, standing duty, bureaucracy, big egos, poor living conditions, bad food, not a lot of great perks compared to private industry, averse to personal technology.

    Advice to Management

Excellent sense of occasion and rewards, keep life of personnel as a top priority

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good entry job fresh out of high-school. It is the military. Good benefits.

    Cons

    No work life balance whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent, and do not think you have to mistreat your subordinates just because that is what you see in movies.

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You just can't beat the benefits you receive as a member of the armed services. Not a civilian employer in the country can even hold a candle to them. Entry level or upper management, the benefits package is pretty much the same

    Cons

Long hours, away from family for long periods of time, and you have to maintain physical readiness

    Advice to Management

Stop voting in reality television stars, or former cowboy movie stars.

They will train you to become a skilled technician. You can do so much to add to your resume while in the Navy.

    Cons

Long work hours. 6 month deployments.

    Advice to Management

    Keep focusing on mission

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Learn foreign language to near fluency.
    - "Break" away from traditional Navy careers/opportunities.
    - Appreciable work/life balance and familiar routine.
    - Stellar benefits and decent pay.

    Cons

    - Advance too high and career may turn away from technical operations toward administrative/managerial type work.
    - Leadership can be nosy, but that's anywhere.
    - "Break" away from traditional Navy careers/opportunities means you don't get the traditional Navy experience.

    Advice to Management

Allow Sailors in the CTI rating more room to negotiate orders. Most who wanted to go out to sea didn't get the opportunity, and those who didn't want to ended up [out at sea].

I have been working at US Navy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best thing about the Navy are the benefits and how much you can keep on moving up as long as you're a hard charger.

    Cons

If you sign a contract for four years, it is hard to get out till your four year mark. That is why you have to stay as optimistic as possible.

    Advice to Management

Everyone has their own path and rate in the Navy, it is really what you make it.
