I worked at US Navy as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Travel
-Salary based pay, a big pro for some and a huge con for others.
-Schooling, assuming you finish your contract and get an honorable discharge.
-Stability, unless you commit a felony or do drugs chances are you will never lose your job
-Health Care, great for anyone with poor health or a family that needs to be taken care of.

    Cons

-Salary. I mentioned it could be a Pro, but it is also a Con. If you are a hard worker, if you love to solve problems creatively and think outside the box, if you are competitive, if you constantly love to out perform your peers...The Navy will be a bad match for you. You will be noticed, you might be rewarded, but at the end of the day you WILL do more work because people will expect it from you. Once you show your peers and leadership you are valuable you will be exploited. Don't expect bonus' or a commission for working harder than your peers, just expect a promotion, maybe a year or 3 down the road.

The other major Con is the lack of a stable schedule. This will drive some nuts and some will be able to cope with it. Just know that if people depend on you for anything you may not always be there.

I have been working at US Navy as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Traveling really means a lot to me and it helps me see this beautiful country and this wonderful world we inhabit.

    Cons

The downside is structured advancement. Advancement isn't truly merit-based, it's more about how long you've been around.

    Advice to Management

My advice is to work with the common man, don't try to set yourself too far apart.
