I worked at US Postal Service full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pros of working as "holiday help" are decent pay you can wear "street clothes" (e.g. jeans, t-shirt).

    Cons

The cons start with the interview and carry into orientation, during which you are not told everything that you can end up being "asked" to do. The job can be dirty (bring your own gloves), and the supervisors often lack people management skills. The hours can seem arbitrary, and what is presented as a bonus during the interview (i.e.: extra hours, do you want any?) becomes mandatory (you must work until ___).
In summary, as November/December help, you are treated like a day laborer: arrive when you are told, find out that day what time to leave, be told when to arrive the next day, and do what you are told while there.

    Cons

long hours, working outside in heavy heat, dog attacks, no time to spend with family or friends, pay cuts without consent or approval of carrier, union is not strong in area

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

The pay is good but as an RCA you may wait several years before getting benefits. Mail doesn't talk back. Getting to know your customers is pretty neat too, so long as you get to work the same route pretty often.

    Cons

They always tell you what you did wrong and never any praise. But let a custome call with a complaint and they are johnny on the spot to let you know that you screwed up and sometimes you didn't even do it!

    Advice to Management

Everything is not about you, so stop taking everything so personal. Everyone has something different going on in their personal life and if we need off, accept this and stop being such a heel. It does take several years to reach regular status but even senior RCA's have a tough time if management takes a personal dislike to them. In our office there is too much preferential treatment given to select RCA's because they are 'friends' with management and this should not be happening.
