I worked at USA Pawn & Jewelry full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    20% employee discount on merchandise.

    Cons

Cost cutting at the expense of employee well-being. Manipulative management practices. Management consistently asks employees to disobey company policies to accomplish difficult or impossible to achieve bonus requirements.

Non-management employees are treated as easily replaceable and neglected any real or meaningful training. Training is done on sales floor computers during business hours. Training is frequently interrupted which interferes with training comprehension and retention.

Management at the store, district, and regional level lack respect for accountability and responsibility. When mistakes are made or goals are not met, management at all levels routinely averts responsibility by contacting Human Resources or senior management before the problem becomes larger to pin blame on lower level employees.

Employee's at all levels have adopted a "throw someone else under the bus" mentality to avoid discipline or corrective action which results in a company culture rooted in fear and mistrust.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate numerical quotas, including management by objectives. A bad system will beat a good person every time.

    Pros

Real laid back job, discounts, managers are cool, breaks

    Cons

Paid minimum wage even as a manager, with no chance of a raise, place is old and falling apart.

I worked at USA Pawn & Jewelry full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of hours, the company was pretty good about giving hour long lunch breaks, starting pay & first raise is pretty good. They generally promote from within. Several stores in Tucson to choose from

    Cons

Corporate upper management tends to have a one size fits all approach on running our business even though we were the first stores in AZ they owned. Very distrusting of line -level employees. Company policy superceded the law in certain situations. Operated very very short staffed and were expected to still keep employees from going into OT.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to listen to staff members more often, the extent that loss prevention went creates too much of a gap between staff and management, gives employees literally no empowerment and put the responsibility and expectations of the managers to be everywhere at the same time

I worked at USA Pawn & Jewelry full-time

    Pros

Pretty laid back environment depending on the store you work at.

    Guaranteed 40+ hours per week.

4 day on, 3 day off schedules for non-exempt employees.

    Cons

High level management is based in Las Vegas and has little to no knowledge on employment law in Oregon.

Managers and assistant managers are brought in at an exempt salary cap, and are then forced to work 11 hours a day, 5 days a week.

They have you sign away your breaks and lunches, without properly explaining the policy. Therefore, no paid breaks, and no lunches to speak of. Note: this practice technically only applies to food service workers who's primary income is tips.

Long daily hours leave little time in the way of life outside of work for managers, especially if you have any sort of commute.

Upper management seems to enjoy punishing lower level employees for the mis-training or mistakes of store managers. They also tend not to get both sides of the story when issues arise.

You have to negotiate a good starting wage for yourself coming in, you won't see a wage increase for some time, if ever.

    No paid benefits.
