Great leadership. Flexible, solid mission, great co-workers. A lot of opportunity for lateral and horizontal movement.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great benefits and match program.

    Cons

A LOT of Micro managing. even though all employees have a bachelor degrees and most have some sort of higher education, still feel like we are treated as high school students.

    Advice to Management

Allow more flexibility with shift's and allow employees to have a bigger chance to prove their worth. Not all projects need to be given to upper management.

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

8% matching 401K, safe and secure environment, on site amenities, beautiful campus, tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

Occasional psychotic manager, 'team members hoard information ', grossly understaffed, burn out, almost everyone is on FML. Stress leaves, dirty building.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people!!! Maybe try doing the job you are managing for a couple of weeks so you can understand. Stop outsourcing, it makes members angry!!!

I have been working at USAA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work life balance and benefits are above standard. Positive outlook for most developer roles.

    Cons

No matter your skill set every developer is paid approximately the same per level. During promotions, which are given and not applied for, it creates little room for negotiation.

Too heavy a reliance on contractors and TCS/HCL.

    Advice to Management

Dont make promotion from hourly to salary a pay cut for said developer
