I worked at USANA Health Sciences full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall company culture is great and it can be a fun place to work. Great benefits package and facilities include onsite gym and covered parking garage. One of the few companies that still offer every full time employee profit sharing bonus.

    Cons

Executive management has a my way or the highway attitude. Growth opportunities are limited. Executive and leadership promise promotion but never follow through. New executive management destroyed certain departments culture and turned those departments it to slave shops.

    Advice to Management

Start by getting back to your roots and make sure to take care of your employees.

I have been working at USANA Health Sciences full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generous yearly profit sharing (approximately equal to 4-6 weeks of pay), the culture has a small company feel, availability for promotion opportunities

    Cons

The management team can be biased to their own preferences and sometimes has trouble thinking outside the box. Keeping to the status-quo.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to suggestions from employees. Look for possible new product lines (i.e. sport nutrition). Stress innovative progression.

Amazing benefits, great health insurance, free gym and personal training. Huge emphasis on being healthy in the workplace. Fast growing company, but with a solid foundation.

    Cons

Opportunities for growth were slim to none. There were many promises made, but not many followed through.

    Advice to Management

Continue encouraging your employees to grow within the company, but make sure you follow through on those promises.

I worked at USANA Health Sciences full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Healthy lifestyle promoted, good benefits, free products, on-site gym, friendly employees.

    Cons

Blundering C-level executives have taken over and are ruining the company. These people are driving out the best talent and bringing in their friends to replace anyone who does not cower to their incompetent demands. They do not show any gratitude for hard work (like working all night to meet an impossible deadline) but will jump all over you when the smallest things don't go as planned.

There is a core group of employees who are dedicated and work very hard while others do not do much. Management moves responsibilities of those non-performers to the employees who produce results, adding to their load.

Plans change all the time right up to the last minute when everyone has to scramble over and over to finally get projects done. The work ends up being faulty because of lack of time to do it right. Every day brings a new fire.

    Advice to Management

Clear the dead wood execs and replace them with people who have real-world (non MLM) experience to get things done right.

    Cons

Due to fast growth, at time overall communication suffers,

    Advice to Management

Have more collaboration among departments to get different perspectives during projects and/or initiatives.

I have been working at USANA Health Sciences full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits package, gym and trainers onsite, excellent products.

    Cons

Difficult for females to become executive leaders, even more difficult to get them to stay. Last four execs to leave were female. Very much a good old boys network with very few minorities in company leadership except in Asian areas. Seems like you have to be a personal friend of the CEO to be on the management team. HR lackadaisical about investigating complaints against upper management but very quick to fire at lower levels. Internal operations are chaotic with frequent changes and arbitrary deadlines. The CEO comes in at the last minute and micromanages, undoing weeks or months of work. Ditto the out-of-touch company founder. After demands like that people are working all night at the office for days on end. Much extra effort is expected of mid to lower mgmnt and workers while VPs and above are scarce after 5pm unless they are meeting together.

    Advice to Management

Trust the talented people you have hired to give you reasoned advice. Make a commitment towards gender, ethnic, and religious diversity in leadership. Stop traveling in a pack and have lunch with your team members or sit with them at a company wide meeting.

    Pros

If you're not very good engineer they will never know.

    Cons

They claim they are building new big things but have no clue how to enable that type of effort. They are only looking for smoke in mirrors "big wins" that is not maintable. They pit engineers against management leaving development without a voice.

    Advice to Management

Fire the cio who has run IT into the ground despite all the additional resources.

    Pros

Gym, benefits, great people to work for

    Cons

Blundering, incompetent CIO. Should not be leading any department or company. Arrogant, uncaring, and has no idea what he is doing. Great employees are leaving left and right. He drove out one of the best VPs in the company.

Arbitrary deadlines, little communication, any mistakes and you are blacklisted. The CIO has more faults than anyone yet he is untouchable. This has become a living hell. I will be looking for a new job as soon as profit sharing is distributed.

Get out while you can or don't join because you will regret it.

    Advice to Management

Your IT department is imploding. Don't you see it or get it? Get rid of this CIO and bring back the true leader of this department before everyone walks.

I have been working at USANA Health Sciences full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People work hard and value teamwork, benefits

    Cons

The work/life balance which USANA professes is not happening in the IT department. Unfortunately, the CIO does not have an prior experience as a CIO and does not seem to know how to properly staff the department, motivate the employees, or foster an environment where the staff is valued. He says the words but his actions speak louder than words.

I have heard from several individual in management that he is very difficult to work with. Many of us wonder when we will be written up or terminated because he has found some fault which is now a detriment to the company. We have lost the VP of IT who had the most experience in the department and now other developers are leaving.

The culture used to be a caring, we are working towards a goal type environment but now it is just get the work done and don't complain.

The developer salaries are below normal. I would not recommend working in the IT department.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees. Take a look at the C levels and ensure they are qualified before you promote them or just assume they are good because they are friends with the CEO.
