I have been working at USC Information Technology Services part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Supervisors are both helpful and kind. In the specific department I worked for (health center), there were several birthday, holiday, and other types of office parties. This was great for getting to know staff members.

    Cons

Student workers are required to work a minimum of 12 hours every week which can be stressful during exam season. Also, it's IT so work can become hectic when there's a huge problem like the internet being down.

I have been working at USC Information Technology Services part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly and team forward atmosphere with a distinct emphasis on customer satisfaction. Some members of the management are exceptional. The job is very communal in nature and it is not uncommon to enjoy interactions with colleagues.

    Cons

Tends to be disorganized. There is a definite disconnect between the management and workforce. Egos often come before work. Some member of the management detract significantly from the work environment. The job can seem very unrewarding as management views many of its workers as wholly expendable and makes no effort to hide this fact.

    Advice to Management

More checks and balances on administrators. Communication needs to play a much larger role, dialog between student workers/staff/management needs a complete overhaul.

I have been working at USC Information Technology Services part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of the best friendships you'll ever make. Higher paying than most on-campus jobs. Scheduling's pretty easy, and you make it at the beginning of the semester so you can plan to handle working and classes at the same time. Easy to get someone else to take your shift, if you have to miss it. Great people, fun environment.

    Cons

There is some favoritism. Training is ok.

I have been working at USC Information Technology Services part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Laid-back atmosphere, friendly co-workers. Compensation for student workers is $10/hour, which is quite reasonable.

    Cons

New hires will have to work a minimum of 15 hours a week, which is a pretty large time commitment. A job at the CSC can get monotonous, as it is call-center work, but the staff at the CSC are extremely friendly and helpful.

    Advice to Management

Hire more students, allow them to work fewer hours per week.
