I worked at USG full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Did not require great experience to get transferred to a new job. If person showed ability if was easier to get a different job.

    Cons

Company had a very hard attendance program. It was very easy to get fired for tardiness or absenteeism. Denied sick days because the company thought it promoted absenteeism.

    Advice to Management

Company projects were often pushed before employees had a chance to appreciate. Programs were often changed before they were understood. Often promoted negative attitudes.

I have been working at USG full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employees are dedicated and push boundaries - great culture of work/life balance and family-first thinking.

    Cons

The management team is completely disconnected with all sorts of weird power plays happening on the 18th floor which unfortunately translates to annual lay-offs, the loss of some amazing and smart people and budget cuts that make it nearly impossible to maintain a competitive advantage. Employees are paranoid to spend money or say the wrong thing for fear of their job/reputation. Consistently cutting marketing and sales spending which makes it harder and harder to compete when frankly our competition is investing. Outdated and legacy technology platforms that are hobbled together makes it hard to do the most basic jobs - like customer service - I think we are still on green screens! We launch new products, build momentum and then don't invest in the plants so we can't manufacture the product. Definitely don't put the customer first.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to stop worrying about their own titles and salaries and start thinking about what made this company so great in the first place. The CEO has surrounded himself with only those who say "yes sir". I wouldn't be surprised if the company is sold or acquired due to poor top of house management.

    Pros

Collaborative environment, people willing to help others. Good people working there. One day a week, you can work from home. Summer hours. Overall, a nice place to work. There are crazy/busy times once in a while, but it's not the norm. It's fast-paced, but manageable.

    Cons

I've enjoyed my time at USG and don't see any major downsides that need to be shared. Let's face it, is there really that perfect job? I don't think so.
