I’m happy, and they have made changes to keep it that way

    Pros

Company vehicle. Starting pay $17/hr (more in union locations) Yearly raises (up to 5%, I’ve received the max every year) company provides all tools and supplies. Bonuses are given in different forms on a regular bases. Bonuses for weekend work during the busy season. Tons of freedom (as long as you work hard and are a quality tech) I could make a long list of positive things about my job. Don’t let bad reviews scare you away, this is a good place to be! (in upstate NY atleast)

    Cons

Micro management has definitely become routine. Production metrics are too much of a concern. Whoever bids on the contracts has no clue what they are doing. Too much work and they refuse to hire enough people which forces guys to cut corners. I know from traveling for work that other states operate differently and screw there guys pretty bad with pay and treatment. I’ve been around some supervisors that treat their crew like crap and then they can’t figure out why they don’t get quality work. If management was consistent and kind everywhere, I think the company as a whole would see big changes. The guys in the field need to be treated with trust and respect, like adults, or else they do not want to work hard. I feel bad knowing that I make around 65k a year (going up every year) and in other states guys can barely clear 30-35k doing the same basically hours and work. The company seems to have the idea that locators are easily replaced, however a good, experienced locator is not easy to replace.

The is okay if you're an entry level person fresh from High School.

    Pros

    * Working alone. * Problem solving. * Knowledge you you learn about the Infrastructures of the US. * Gateway to better jobs in and out of the company. * Company vehicle.

    Cons

    * They will chow you up and spit you out. The long hours during dig season is insane. Just expect to not have a real life from Spring to Fall. Wish they would've told me about this before applying. * Pay is okay * Some of the Supervisors haven't a clue on how to run a team effectively. * Weekend work.

Sugarcoated, but the job isn't great

Sep 29, 2021 - Utility Locate Technician in Spring, TX

    Pros

Pay is decent. And you get a company vehicle for work purposes only.

    Cons

Working as a team is heavily emphasized, but once you're in the field, you'll have no help. Overtime is mandatory, and it wouldn't be so bad, but the amount of physical activity required for the job is extremely draining. Management is always a mess and lazy coworkers with more tenure will always leave the most difficult jobs to the newbies, which is very unfair.
