    Pros

The staff get back to you with any issues promptly.

    Cons

Although the pay is better than some other postdoctoral programs, it is still challenging to live in the Bay Area on the stipend. This is a universal problem however.

I have been working at USRA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    The various sciences are great.

    Cons

Management just doesn't get it. There are ways to improve your employees moral and it doesn't cost a lot.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees. They are who got you where you are!

I have been working at USRA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very interesting mission. The non-profit aspect is very fulfilling. The focus on STEM education makes one proud. The scientific work is pretty good

    Cons

Unfortunately there is a poisonous work environment up at the headquarters. Not as much in the field. Many employees feel like they work for NASA which is delusional to be honest.

    Advice to Management

The word in the field is that the CFO is very abusive to everyone at the headquarters. It's too bad because many great people have been fired by her or have left to escape her. The CEO is ok. The executives need to grow up and remember they support us scientists and engineers not the other way around.

I worked at USRA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Entry to the NASA workplace and the ability to wear a NASA t-shirt and say 'I work with NASA'. Get paid for doing a job you love.

    Cons

This is NASA's temp agency. Works well if you are a university faculty who is looking for temporary employment at NASA. Otherwise, you are a temporary employee of a governmental organization. What you don't get are a) career growth opportunities, b) scheduled salary increases, c) substantial healthcare benefits, d) any recognition of your efforts. Want a real job? Go work for a real NASA contractor - ie a defense company. USRA takes their lead from NASA management. They have zero interest in your career. If you must work for USRA, do so for 1-2 years and a max of 3. Anything longer and you are on a career track to no where.

    Advice to Management

Sorry to hear you couldn't make it in academics like other PhDs.

    Pros

Beautiful spacious office, nice little gym and a new CEO that will clear out the garbage

    Cons

The upper management before Jeff was disorganized which made it difficult to support them.

    Pros

Exciting company with an outstanding mission. Works hard to further the cause of the universities they represent and to promote education.

    Cons

    Company is small but growing.

    Pros

Great coworkers, relatively stable, reasonable benefits, super interesting work!

    Cons

Salary, contractual job, powerlessness of management

    Advice to Management

Be your employees' biggest advocate when it comes to negotiating on the contract. Offer supportive middle management that has the time to fully familiarize themselves with the positions you sponsor.

I have been working at USRA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everything is dependent on your supervisor's opinion and funding situation, including title, salary, promotion, training, conference... Staffs are very amenable and high-efficient on processing request.

    Cons

The vacation/sick days are significantly less than university compares.

I worked at USRA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

USRA is a good company to work for. They provide good benefits, a fair salary, comp time, professional training, and you get to work with a very talented group of people.

    Cons

The only con is that USRA is so dependent on work from NASA that if NASA has budget issues than employment is at risk at USRA.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.
