I worked at USTA (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun job. You get to watch the tennis matches. Also meet a lot of nice people. The staff is usually relatively young, many still in high school.

    Cons

When it rained you were asked to do a lot of work to dry the courts and operate machines. Sometimes asked to lift heavy boxes of water and Powerade.

    Pros

Great place to work at and the workers are friendly.

    Cons

It's only part time and in some cases only seasonal.

    Advice to Management

Have more full time positions available for those seeking work.

I worked at USTA (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center during the US Open provided a way to make a decent amount of money in a short period of time. I liked my co-workers and guests and watching great tennis. We could work plenty of overtime and received a daily food credit and water/beverages. Employees are also given caps, shirts, shorts/pants and a windbreaker to wear.

    Cons

The days can be very long as well as hot. Employees may be required to work more than two weeks without a day off. Most positions require standing for long period of time.

    Advice to Management

Allow employees to sit when possible while still providing an exceptional customer experience. I believe turnover is fairly high in the first few days of the event because it is exhausting to stand in the heat all day.

    Pros

Great place to work! Chance to impact kids lives through tennis

    Cons

Communication can be bad. Sometimes leadership is not clear.

    Advice to Management

Set clear goals. It sounds obvious, but too many managers simply tread water or get pulled in too many directions instead of figuring out what the most important things for them to achieve are and focusing there.

I have been working at USTA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company has an excellent compensation and benefit program.

    Cons

The lack of or inconsistent use of soft skills by executive management and how it impacts the moral of staff.

I worked at USTA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are great, you are really taken care of as far as health and 401k but also you get tickets to the US Open, your schedule can be flexible at times and there are a lot of staff outings/activities.

    Cons

Its impossible to get promoted, they really only promote based on longevity versus skill and salaries are very low.
