I worked at USTA (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities -- you will get out of the place what you put in. Smaller sports organization so you'll be exposed to a lot and will help your career grow

    Pros

    1) great work culture-- the people are all very nice and helpful & want to give their interns the opportunity to be active at all stages
    2) great management-- they listen to everyone; as an intern, I was able to speak in staff meetings and given real tasks to complete
    3) great internship program-- you work with the other interns to propose a solution for a real company issue
    4) great perks-- if you play tennis, definitely take advantage of playing the Freebody Cup! it's a great networking opportunity and really makes you feel like a part of the company!
    5) great opportunities-- work hard and you'll be rewarded; if you're lucky, you might even get asked to work during the US Open.

    Cons

I have no cons to share.

    Pros

People are wonderful and upbeat. Passionate about what they do. Very relaxed environment - like too relaxed. Great perk helping on US Open, and watching from the ground floor.

    Cons

They are moving most of their units to Florida by next summer. People are jumping ship because they do not feel secure in job. People who were told they are not affected by relocation are then told they are. They change overall strategy every two years because CEO/President is a term position. This creates dysfunction and lack of focus . Progress thus cannot be sustained. No movement or advancement. They really do not promote so if you are hired for a specific role/position; expect to stay that way. If you come in as contractor or temp, they really just keep you as such. Again, no promise. Too bad really.

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunity so you can retain talent. Adopt an organizational strategy for 5-7 years. And keep to it no matter who is elected as CEO/President. Revolving door practice makes for poor success and poor PR.

    I worked at USTA full-time

    Pros

Employees are passionate about the work. Good work-life balance, because it's about play.

    Cons

They still have a big problem with inclusion as it relates to diverse workers, especially women and African Americans, particularly at the top of the organization. There remains a "good old boy" culture that rewards those who look like them and penalizes and excludes those who do not.

    Advice to Management

Work on providing a more inclusive environment.

I have been working at USTA as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very helpful group. They love to get kids into the door and help them build skills for the future.

    Cons

Not much intiative try and keep interns on or promote that they are hiring and really want you. Also some interns, like myself, ran out of things to work on. The internship was too short term for me to work on the majority of what was going on. Very few small projects were given out.

    Advice to Management

More structured work for interns as well as update their mobile and online presence.
