I have been working at UT Dallas part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Some opportunity for collaboration, many learning opportunities, some interesting research opportunities. BSB Systems Neuroscience PhD students get $1000 travel awards to use every year to visit conferences, but you get reimbursed afterwards.

    Cons

Low pay (especially for teaching assistants - research assistants are paid slightly more with less responsibilities), very competitive, long hours expected, and often have to work with few resources if your lab doesn't maintain a lot of active grants... Pick your principal investigator and lab wisely.
