    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at UT Southwestern Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great institution for basic research. Tons of faculty with diverse interests and access to some of the best facilities and equipment available. Relatively high stipend and relatively low cost of living in Dallas compared to other major cities makes quality of life above average. No undergrads.

    Cons

Far from the coasts where most of the biotech/pharma industry is. Makes it difficult to forge contacts within industry. Without an undergrad population, teaching experience is non-existent if that is important to you.

    Advice to Management

Career services need to be boosted in a big way. Many students need help getting a career off the ground and the school is largely uninterested in assisting.

I have been working at UT Southwestern Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Committed, innovative, friendly scientists. Top-rated science (rated in top five of the nation in many biomedical research categories). Pretty campus with good on-campus transportation. Good gym. As a graduate student you get Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance that has unbeatable coverage (and adding a spouse is only $200/month).

    Cons

No undergraduate population for those interested in teaching (or being around more effervescent characters). Not the best or prettiest part of town but that is slowly changing.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

sufficient funds, enormous supervisors to follow, good education mechanism, easy to find collaborations

    Cons

limited to basic biomedical research, not actively open to multidisciplinary subjects

    Advice to Management

need to motivate some professors to be more active in mentoring students, evaluate the quality of faculty as a mentor in addition to a scientist or a boss
