    Awesome Company

Nov 21, 2013 - Supply Chain Intern in Windsor Locks, CT

    Pros

Fantastic people, place a huge emphasis on ethics and educating its work force. Work challenges its employees daily. There is great opportunity for upward movement in the company. As an intern, they place huge importance on educating us about the company and the opportunities that are provided with the company. They also expose us to professionals that have had upward movement and can give younger professionals and future professionals. The best part about the company in my eyes is the opportunity to further your education. They do not reluctantly approve for you to further your education they encourage it! Over the life of the company they have invested well over 1 Billion Dollars into their employees going to school. That is beyond awesome. I would recommend anyone who is smart, ethical and willing to work hard to go to UTC.

    Cons

The fast pace sometimes does not allow for weaknesses in employees to be developed. It is important for employees to feel like they are constantly developing

    Great Opportunity

Jun 14, 2015 - Design Engineer Intern in Burnsville, MN
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are many great reasons to work at UTC Aerospace Systems. The company really does value the employees. The workload is definitely manageable for a college student or fresh college grad to transition into the real-world. This is an innovative company. Also, as an intern, you are paid hourly. Most times, your managers will only ask 40 hours a week from you, and you'll have the flexibility to choose how you get there! This is a huge pro simply because of the flexibility you have.

    Cons

The company is getting large. One of the downfalls is getting technical support. More specifically, it may take longer than expected to get certain software packages installed on your computer. Also, some tasks aren't related to engineering, but as someone who is just entering the aerospace field, working on those tasks will allow you to get accustomed to language used in the industry and at the company.

    Summer Intern

Dec 15, 2015 - Program Management Intern in Albuquerque, NM
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Had a generally positive time while interning. The people I worked with all were very helpful and polite. My managers all seemed very happy to have me around and get me exposed to program management. Most people in the office were willing to help.

    Cons

Coming from an engineering background I felt other internships had a better idea of what I should be doing as an intern but this experience wasn't like that. It was hard for me to find a set task most of the time. Although, my managers were happy to have me it seemed like others didn't see much value in interns. A big thing with this site was that it recently (2-3 yrs) was bought by UTC so there was half a culture of standardization and strictly by the book and the other half had a more "tradition" attitude. The biggest divider between these two groups seemed more to be each didn't wanna see the others perspective.

    Engineering Internship

Jul 20, 2016 - Project Engineering Intern in Chula Vista, CA
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

I really enjoyed the fact that I worked in the Program Technical Department, so I had the chance to work with various engineering groups. There were numerous tasks, some simple, some much larger projects, and sometimes I even had the chance to attend workshops with customers.

    Cons

I had a pretty solid date that I would be released in January of 2016 from pretty much the day I started, but one day I got an email saying that I was being terminated early, and my internship would end on 9/30/2015. That was around 9/7/2015. So it was very sudden and somewhat short-noticed.

    Good Internship

Aug 18, 2015 - Business Development Intern in Windsor Locks, CT

    Business Outlook

    Pros

The internship program was very structured and organized. My supervisor had a list of accomplishments that he planned for me to complete by the end of my term. I was also given a list of people to meet in order to learn more about the other sectors of the company and to gain contacts. It is a diverse company with a great work environment. There is a ton to learn if you are willing to put in the work.

    Cons

It is a very large organization so there are many unfamiliar faces. The food in the cafeteria could have been better. The gym could have had a few extra squat racks and benches.

    Good Internship

Jul 15, 2018 - Intern in Rockford, IL
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Great people to work with. They are nice and friendly, as well as intelligent. They will likely be happy to explain how things work within the company - The projects involve working on the most influential Aerospace products in the industry - Calm environment. There is also a new cafeteria with decent food selections and prices - Events from resource groups and professional development classes are fairly informative and help with meeting new people in the company - Good work-life balance

    Cons

    - Upper management has to approve of everything multiple times over, including trivial things - Interns are sometimes assigned tasks that are considered extra work for full-time co- workers, and sometimes only after searching around. - Meetings aren't useful for all employees

    Software Engineering Intern

    Oct 15, 2015 - Software Engineer Intern
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good Pay, if you want to get experience as an intern you can, you just need to ask for it. People are willing to help you if you ask questions.

    Cons

VERY slow moving. I did not get a computer (as a software engineering intern...) until almost a week after I started. After that, I didn't have access to the systems I needed for another 1-2 weeks. Do not look here (unless you are applying to R&D) for a fast-moving innovative tech company. This is an aerospace giant that has an entrenched development process and strict FAA guidelines.

    Pros

Great learning experience with a lot of different learning areas. The people and environment was very inviting and made you want to go to work each day.

    Cons

The location wasn't ideal. Jamestown didn't have many housing options and those that were available were really pricey.

    Pros

Friendly, helpful, and outgoing workers. Everyone wanted to make sure I made the most of my experience. Great office environment, newly renovated. Daily tasks were relevant and appreciated - they didn't just give me busy work. Paid sick days and holidays (no paid vacation though).

    Cons

I can't think of any cons, it was truly a great experience
