UTC Aerospace Systems Employee Reviews about "work life balance"

UTC employee scholar program (used to be better when they had no cap on amt of degrees and annual expense cap) they now only cover 1 degree of each level (Bachelors, Masters, PHD) and a max of 15k a year. Lots of employee engagement groups in homebase like Windsor Locks, CT Job can be laid back or can be job from hell depending on the position and what program you are working.

Cons

I have friends that work for certain programs and work a minimum of 50-60 hrs a week and weekends... so choose a position carefully if work/life balance is important to you. There are some positions in certain programs that have great work/life balance and flexibility...its just about finding the right one. No trust for upper management it feels Salary is not competive once you have been with the company for a long time, yearly raises suck (2-3% is the avg) so make sure you negotiate your salary coming in.

Good work-life balance and flexible work schedule. Everyone was really friendly and always willing to teach you something if you asked.

A lot of red tape surrounding everything. Accomplishing something simple took several days. Sometimes days felt like a waste since I couldn't get anything productive done.

I worked at Hamilton Standard then Sundstrand Including the merger with Goodrich. The merger is said to be a success but it is not. Goodrich was a better managed company with a family atmosphere that UTC eliminated. There is in fighting because you can only have so much management after a merger and it is a dog eat dog culture. The UTC pension plan is eliminated, most of the manufacturing moved oversee's, the hourly work force is disrespected and minimized, new leadership put in place is clueless and the salary work force has been reduced to a point where unpaid overtime is expected. Moral is poor and experienced workers are retiring or leaving. Interns like it because they are exposed to aerospace technology and given lots of responsibility. Then once they have been there awhile and realize promotions are political not based on merit and work life balance is poor they leave. To top it off HR is in the pocket of management and never follows through on complaints.

- Work life balance (its almost impossible to have time for yourself) - Too much Dependant on the US offices for the instructions - Scope of innovation is limited in india (for some BUs) - The work environment is too much racy - Judgmental and not efficient management - No employee engagement activities

Working with the best team and enjoying my role. A lot of changes are happening to promote work life balance and promote flex work. Would recommend UTAS to anyone.

A few too many senior managers in positions because of time served, not capability. This ultimately hurts the teams and overall, the business performance
