    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at UW Colleges full-time

    Pros

Many amazing students and dedicated instructors and staff.

    Cons

Low wages. Relatively low job security. An incredible amount of bureaucracy. A decent chance of not surviving as an institution, as is evidenced by recent re-structuring.

I have been working at UW Colleges part-time

    Pros

Easy work, coworkers were pleasant to work around, pretty laid back environment, boss is pretty good about giving you time off

    Cons

Can get pretty boring at times, sitting in a cubicle almost the whole entire time, a lot of monotonous work

    Advice to Management

Make the role a little more interesting, get the worker out of the cubicle more often, give the position a little more work

I have been working at UW Colleges full-time

    Pros

Friendly faculty and staff, working with students, UW moniker

    Cons

The pay is dismal at best. You could make more as an assistant manager at a fast food joint than you can as a senior-level specialist or faculty member within the UW Colleges system.
You are never sure if you'll have a job next year because they eliminated half of the academic and university staff.

    Advice to Management

Pay the UW Colleges employees the same as the faculty and staff do within the UW system at other campuses. They work just as hard and do just as much (if not more) work than these folks.

I worked at UW Colleges full-time

    Pros

Faculty care about students and teaching, despite being underpaid.

    Cons

Leadership cares about no one--a toxic stew of opacity, mistrust, and blaming.

    Advice to Management

Build a culture where people feel invested and motivated. Or move on and give someone else a chance.

I have been working at UW Colleges full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good people to work with (even if they lean democratic). Small community feel to the workplace

    Cons

Administrators are difficult to trust and get the lions share of raises, bonuses. Re-titleing of administrative positions seems to be the way they get their raises. Lessor employees are blatantly disregarded in terms of compensation. Broken promises and many lies.

    Advice to Management

Decentralize. The majority of leadership positions just push paper and keys - need actual workers where the rubber meets the road. Adjust salaries to be comparable - not just the administrators

I worked at UW Colleges (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits were great, then good.

    Cons

If you except to affect change, you won't. The system doesn't like change.

    Advice to Management

Look to the future, not the past. Embrace change.
