    Steady/Reliable Workplace

Sep 9, 2022 - Corporate Buyer in Pleasant Prairie, WI
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Continuously growing company with no sign of slowing down -Great amenities (state of the art walking trails, gym, extremely clean buildings, subsidized cafe with amazing food), better pay than average, reliable bonuses -Fun, nice and helpful employees. Everyone is willing to chip in to get the job done or to get your question answered -Recent changes in leadership have shifted the Purchasing department to be more aligned, allowing you to focus on specific categories and become an expert on your products -"Create Your Own Day" type workload, which allows for flexibility on when you complete tasks or when you take your lunch break -Flexible hours, within reason. Standard hours are 7am-4pm (with a 1 hour lunch), with the latest start time being 9am -Most expectations are clearly laid out -16 days PTO to start, 21 after 5 years, 26 after 15 -Uline covers the cost of Short Term and Long Term Disability Insurance -401k and 401roth options with 5% company match -Infertility treatments covered at 80% by insurance, up to $100k -Specific vaccines not required

    Cons

-No WFH -Strict rules of dress code and desk "cleanliness" are enforced -Dress Code: ties daily for men, dresses and skirts or full suit for women, tights required for women 6 months of the year -Hours are tracked and reported on (must clock in and out daily, required to average 45 hours each week) -No sick time - PTO is to be used anytime you are out of the office -FMLA/Short Term Disability for Maternity leave (STD paid at 60% for 6 weeks, 6 weeks unpaid) -Audit culture has somewhat relaxed, but is very dependent on your director

    Culture Growing More Toxic

    Aug 20, 2022 - Anonymous Employee
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

You'll probably never lose your job Solid cheap food Potential career growth

    Cons

Many comments mention no WFH, but it's actually worse. It's all political and case by case basis. There is no written policy. If your manager likes you it's much more likely to get approved. Or different managers have different standards for what they will allow. So not only do you have to deal with the corporate feel of day to day life of dressing up in a tie for men or pantyhose 6 months of the year for women, but they won't make a corporate wide policy for WFH. Consultants can WFH and IT is in 2 different offices. So you job operates like a remote employees would, but you have to do it from an office. A very common line they use is 'if you're too sick to come into the office, you're too sick to work'. They believe PTO is for days when it's-50 degrees out. Owners are still huge Trump backers of you care about that. Falling behind in PTO 0 Regard for covid if that comes back-much of the office staff stayed in the office in spring of 2020. IT is losing employees at a fairly industry average rate, but cannot replace them. They're relying heavily on consultants(who can WFH) and it's destroying the culture and quality of work They think they pay really well, and they might right out of school, but for everyone else, the pay is very market for a job that is not in line with the market They make a hard sell on not taking work home with you. But they still want you there 46 hours a week, so unless you live across the street your total time commitment is almost guaranteed higher than other jobs

    Micro management

    Nov 13, 2022 - Warehouse Worker
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

    Good pay and that's it

    Cons

First week in and the trainer makes you feel like you're a loser or stupid while you're feeling stressed in the new role. Was having trouble grasping some of the basics because the manager was always watching me just waiting for me to mess up so they could spring into action tell me how I could've made an error. Sometimes that's the only way we truly learn and improve is by making mistakes. When you don't let your employees breathe or don't provide positive feedback, it really feels deflating to the them. I understand that Uline wants service excellence for the customer but they need to take care of their employees as well. Not all of us understand the material the first week and take a little longer to process things. This environment just isn't for me.
