I have been working at Ulta Beauty part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The discount you get on products is great!

    Cons

Due to corporate always cutting pay roll, the store is usually minimally staffed. So hours can be hard to get and busy days can be pretty stressful. There are also unrealistic expectations of what an employee can get done in their shift. Disorganization at the corporate level is also very evident

    Cons

pay, not enough hours, bad management

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Ulta Beauty part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My co workers and the discount are the only pros

    Cons

You get very little hours. I'm talking, 4-12on average each week. Managers max out at 39 hours while only the GM gets a full 40 hour a week schedule. Schedules are only put out weekly. You DONT get gratis unless you are scheduled to go to trainings... but you're only scheduled if you're a prestige worker...yet they want everyone to push sales. How am I going to sell a product I can't afford because you don't pay me enough to buy it. Nobody at my location has been able to work their way up. So we are left with stuck up, don't tell me what to do cuz I'm YOUR manager, new girls who know nothing about the job and just want a title.

    Advice to Management

Please take what your employees say, with an open mind. Always have their back. Get out there on the floor and work with us. You want a team to respect you? Get on their level and see what they have to deal with before you pass judgment on them.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Brings in regular traffic, provides promotion tools, regularly stocked color bar and supplies, 25% employee discount

    Cons

Rules come down from corporate that often make no sense. For example... they just recently said that you can't clock out late or come in early to accommodate guests. So if you are running behind you are screwed. If it happens more than 8 times in a year you are terminated. I have no idea how this could EVER work in a salon. I am leaving and so are other employees thats have also been employed by Ulta for years. The managers are constantly butting heads between departments. Another huge issue is how you feel like the company doesn't care about employee's only numbers. I've worked at different locations and have friends that work in other stores too. We all share this view. Horribly corporate company. Low commission starting off at 43%

    Advice to Management

Stylists NEED to be able to have a flexible schedule. Asking us to stop exactly when we are scheduled to stop will never work. What about side work? what about hitting goals? what happens when someone has thick long hair and it takes longer to do? That rule is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. The reason we make our numbers is because we are able to fit in more people. I know many that are going to walk out because it makes no sense.

    Pros

    Discount
    Meet new people
Get the new makeup trends first

    Cons

    Lack of hours
    Hire way too many people
    No support from management
    Low pay
    No consistency
    Managers pick favorites
    Negativity
Pushed to push product even when it isn't what the customer needs
    False promises
    No professionalism

    Advice to Management

All I can say is that not only do employees not feel valued, they hardly feel hired at all. Most get no hours until some other girl gets sick of the catty bs and quits. There's little management and many girls working waited up to several weeks for their first paycheck or enough hours to make it worth it, while never talking to you(management) because they were treated like they were lucky to have the job. The location I worked is widely known as the worst and everyone I know who worked with me has already quit. I wish I could've seen another store operate.

My absolute least favorite part of working there was the cattiness towards new girls from both management and workers.

My absolute favorite was the specialists! They always helped us new girls! Just a pleasure to be around and always helpful to customers.
