I worked at Ulta Beauty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work is incredibly rewarding in the Distribution Center. You are encouraged to speak with upper management and corporate, so you are noticed across multiple channels.

    Cons

Terrible communication when it is needed most.

    Advice to Management

Understand the roles of those below you, don't assume your supervisors are not doing all they can, understand the culture of 1st shift. Keep shooting for the stars like you do - greatly admired the desire to keep moving forward.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty part-time

    Pros

25% retail discount and 50% salon discount, occasional gratis

    Cons

No job stability or empathy and understanding for single mothers, major lack of communication from other managers, our store's GM is constantly on vacation and micromanaging and our DM does not care. Employees are looked at as work horses rather than actual people with bills to pay. Little to no training done for higher positions and rules are constantly changing.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees more. When you expect flexibility from your employees, understand that a single mother without reliable childcare who is one of your managers relies on the specific monthly manager schedule that is put out. Also, a manager shouldn't be getting 16-20 hours a week. A single mom can't survive off of that. Finally, a General Manager at Ulta makes $56K per year on average. That means that the GM is supposed to be there for a minimum of 40 hours a week and is supposed to be the first one there when something goes wrong with the store. Not taking a week long vacation every month.

I have been working at Ulta Beauty full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

401k, Benefits, Discount, Free Services, Salon Manager Bonus program

    Cons

Some stores need better security. Training could be increased.

    Advice to Management

Recognize your employees. When DM's RVP's and high ups come into the store, take time to listen, ask questions, what concerns employees have. Value your employees. Give the stores more hours for retail so they have the ability to reach sales goals.

I worked at Ulta Beauty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

25% discount all year, 35% discount 1 week during Christmas and occasional additional discount on select brands through the year. Great benefits if you're a full time employee.

    Cons

You will never have a set schedule unless you work in the salon, rules & policies constantly change, lots of drama, terrible holiday hours and 0 work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees that are working hard, pick and choose your fights and understand that sometimes the GM of a store is wrong. I worked for ulta for a little over 2 years and really thought I would have a life long career with the company but realized I was only being fed false hope so I wouldn't leave. I dealt with more than I should and did much more than my job description because I was continually told I was about to be promoted from a boutique position to prestige manager. I had watch several other girls (while working there) be told the same thing and it never happened but my management team reassured me that they weren't screwing me over. After 7 months of "training" doing much more than what I was paid to do I put in my 2 weeks and they didn't even bother asking me what they could do to make me stay. I loved my job at Ulta but unfortunately the company only cares about making money & not about you or your life outside of ulta. I handled it for as long as possible but it was causing depression and stress in my life. Leaving was the scariest and best decision I ever made. Store 113 needs some serious help from corporate and if you spent 1 day talking to the employees (employees that have worked their longer than a few months) one on one you would know why.
