Great opportunity for growth
Jul 10, 2014 - Associate Manager in Phoenix, AZRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I was promoted up the chain from a cashier to an associate manager of people in less than a year. (4 promotions) and I plan to continue to the corporate level. I really enjoy everything I have learned about the business and being a manager has prepared me for future difficult situations that I may face. The entire staff works together to help make budget and goals.
Cons
Sometimes the goals that the company sets for individual stores are not realistic to what we actually end up doing. I don't have a very good work/life balance because I'm always at work.

Pros
Fun to work at. Artist.
Cons
You work hard to make a try to make it a career. When all they want is to make it a job. Coming on the DM and GM will tell you ' we are a retailer that is all about work life balance.' But this is not the case. Also good luck with getting growth out of ulta.

Could be better
May 13, 2023 - Services Manager in Ann Arbor, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The job itself is big but rewarding! I had a great team and it pays well with proper experience. If you have a passion for the beauty industry it can be a great place to work depending on management.
Cons
Some managers can be power hungry to the point of you walking away. The way they push sales is a little uncomfortable. They want us to have full on conversations to push sales with EVERY person you come across so if you see a shopper that wants to be left alone and you know that, they still expect you to sell. Yes it’s a business, but Ulta shouldn’t have to try THAT hard. There’s also hardly any work life balance with how many calls and texts you answer outside of work. Shifts are usually whole day consuming such as 11-7 without including the commute time. That’s your whole day.

Management level needs to be more lean and professional.
Feb 20, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Bolingbrook, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Laid back environment, close to home.
Cons
Unprofessional behavior. Management feels they can lie and intimidate employees into over working. A fake caring attitude about 'culture' and open discussion and work/life balance and career paths. Nothing backed by actions. Empty words. Work and keeping your job is all fear-based. Worse job move ever. Unsure if mary dillon is fully aware, but other 'C' levels and VPs are. Time to move on.
