I worked at Uncle Bob's Self Storage full-time

    Pros

Great place to work. Offers great benefits for full time employees. No more than 3 people working in the office. Great if you don't like large crowds

    Cons

The work schedule is 9 to 6 , mon - sat. The downfall is the sun schedule. 12-4 pm. Not much time available for worship of Sunday afternoon dinners with family

    Advice to Management

If you insist on being open on sun, maybe the hours could be 8 to 12., to allow your team to spend quality time with family on Sunday .

I worked at Uncle Bob's Self Storage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job can be fun, depending on the Store Manager.
Easy job once you get past the antiquated processes
Customer interactions mostly positive and provides and interesting work environment
Enjoyable most of the time if you don't mind working inside and outside

    Cons

    Low pay
Work alone ALOT. Especially during busy times
ASM's have no authority , You will always be the bad guy to the customer when the Manager folds to every complaint.
ALOT of Paper processes and file cabinets. Really?
Run down properties with no investment back in them,
Scary and rude customers at times,

    Advice to Management

Modernize and invest back into the properties if you want to lead the industry.
Be more fair with weekend work by implementing rotation. At least on Sundays.
    Staff busy stores better.

I have been working at Uncle Bob's Self Storage full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Sister stores help each other. Easy to get questions answered by another store manager if necessary.

    Cons

There is a lot of double talk from those above the store level. It seems that they play by an entirely different rule book than those at the store level. The company is extremely money focused. If an associate makes a mistake with the cash drawer, they can be fired with no warning and no second chance.

I have been working at Uncle Bob's Self Storage full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling. Holiday pay is good, vacation time is good.

    Cons

Insurance is WAY to expensive and crappy. Too much put on store teams. Upper management doesn't take how hard store employees work. Is not fair on the pay. You earn more working fast food or retail. Is an ok job if you have a second income.

    Advice to Management

Increase the pay for those employees in the field making sure that they know how appreciated they are. Do not start people with no experience out higher than experienced managers that have been loyal employees for many, many years.

    Pros

I worked alone most of the time and it was very easy work. Really liked that when we close the office, people in the building could still stay as the office was separated from the storage building.

    Cons

Too many rules and regulations and you would be penalized if you forgot to get a form signed. It was scary at first because walking in a storage facility all alone at night is not my cup of tea but eventually i got use to it.

    Advice to Management

    Less forms to fill out

I worked at Uncle Bob's Self Storage (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Allowing store mangers a certain amount freedom as far as scheduling, and day to day operations.

    Cons

Pay is average and bonus does little to motivate.

    Advice to Management

Open up the wallet to those that have shown a certain amount dedication and commitment.

    Pros

Pretty laid back company. Just do what's expected of you, but do it well. This is an acquisitions company, so there's pretty huge potential for growth. Paid holidays off, pro-rated vacation and sick time with your very first paycheck. Training is long and drawn out, but incredibly thorough. There's always someone to call for help. Home office managers regularly seek out suggestions and complaints from field associates. Every manager, from the stores right up to the HO, are always willing to help and always make you feel like there's no mistake or issue that they won't help you solve.

    Cons

The pay is awful and the health insurance is expensive.
You have to hound people for payments each month and charge them late fees if they fail to pay. Really think about the economy of the area for which you're applying in. Low economy = more collections calls and late fees = tenants fighting to get late fees waived.

    Advice to Management

Pay more. We're not making a living wage. If it wasn't for my husbands income, my kids and I would be in a homeless shelter with this pay.

    Cons

Turnover rate in upper management is high, no room for growth if you're at the store level. Expect to get paid what you start at throughout your entire employment there

    Advice to Management

    You're doing fine.
