    Pros

Salary is competitive, I believe very competitive in some organizations like Service and Sales. There is a glimmer of hope with the new c-level management for a turnaround in profitability, driven by a more-serious charge into product launches with leading technologies and major shift in Sales strategy to Partner & Channel-driven.

    Cons

Repeated loss of benefits: employee insurance costs annually increase, reduction in vacation days annually, meager recognition programs, reduction in company's financial support of mobile device usage and expectation of long, long, long hours.

    Advice to Management

Plan your reductions in workforce to actually stop providing specific product support and services, rather than globally slashing and then band-aiding only the biggest bleeders.

    Pros

We have employees who have worked her for 20 plus years who have not given up on this company and continue to put in long hours. Several "large deal" wins with new customers and dedicated engineers who push the envelope to create cutting edge communication solutions.

    Cons

Constant layoffs and looking over your shoulder to see if you are next. Loss of 10 vacation days for all U.S. employees, took away company provided cell phones, more expensive insurance and no pay raises for over 5 years. No bonus plan payouts in years. Extensive layoffs, reorganization to cut costs and restructure the business. Decisions are being made to structure change without understanding the implications. Senior level executives are hiring their buddies and they all are disconnected from the realities of the people actually doing the work. Since most of us have been here 20 plus years and are close to retirement, they know they can take advantage of our situation.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating employees like commodities. You say employees are valued but there are no actions to back up your words. Get out of your ivory towers, listen to your employees and create a company culture that values people. Hire more people to help with the work load, provide more support resources and growth opportunities.

I have been working at Unify full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Strong support and tools for remote workers
    - Contact with co-workers from all around the world
    - Very talented and committed technical team.

    Cons

    - Large amount and constant number of Layoffs affected the moral and management did not invest much in "recovering" the moral of the employees that remained.
    - Lost very talented people because of salary policies and the current direction of "shipping" R&D wherever is cheaper overseas.
    - Shrinking all R&D to a minimum (not sustainable)...

    Advice to Management

Most people understood the reasoning behind the recently layoffs and had hope that at the end of it we would have a better outlook in the coming months, because most of people working at Unify believe in the products we have, have invested ( and continue investing) extra hours for a long period and really enjoyed the work and co-workers.
The problem is after those layoffs, nothing has been done to keep what was left of the company and core R&D team members were leaving on a weekly basis and upper management actually seems to encourage this (planned passive layoff?).
If the management was serious about maintaining some kind of R&D in the U.S, it must be clear and act like it really mean it.

    Pros

Virtual worker in most cases, professional co-workers from all area's of the world to work with and seek assistance from.

    Cons

Like all companies going thru restructuring process which resulted in large volume of layoff effecting staff with vast experience and knowledge of corporate policy and procedures.

    Advice to Management

Reach out to former employees who were cut do to cost savings and when business rebounds rehire since those individuals already know how to work within the organizations regulations and can get back to actual work day one.

From Bill Hurley (CMO) - thank you for the "advice to management". Appreciate it. I think the company is starting to make that turn, though there is a long road ahead. Best of luck to you.

I worked at Unify full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Even after many layoffs, and restructuring, the company still had decent benefits compared to other companies in south east florida.

    Cons

    They are many:
    - no stability in US
    - constant layoffs
    - constantly reducing benefits
    - no vision
    - no plan
    - constant outsourcing of work

    Advice to Management

Let the employees know what future plans are instead of giving bad news quarter after quarter.

    Pros

Great products and technology. If they had the marketing the products would dominate the UC space.

    Cons

Horrible benefits and no 401k match. Every month there were layoffs. The spoke of a channel model but they never engaged partners. They eliminated the sales organization but did not add partners.

    Advice to Management

Build the channel you spoke of and retain the employees that can support those channel partners.

I worked at Unify full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are nice, respectful and from different cultural backgrounds.
Interesting technology and the products are good.
First line managers are usually accessible and open.
Some bright and powerful minds are working hard all the time.

    Cons

The company has been on the decline for the past 15 years.
There were lots of opportunities for a good turnaround, some were totally missed and some were attempted. Ultimately all of them failed.
Lack of vision in either product development or how the business should be structured/defined.
Lack of accountability at senior management. Sometimes the effects of bad decisions are felt only years later and by then the leadership has changed.
Company paid benefits are ceasing: no 401k match since 2008 (I think); everyone across all tiers is getting 10 PTO days less; there are less health care options and they are more expensive; no bonuses that I know of. HR leadership (now based in Germany) openly admitted to not understanding why benefits are so important here in the US (!!?!??!).
Loyal customers are feeling the reduction in the workforce, and going to the competitors.
Layoff after layoff and very talented people are leaving. The company shrunk from 60.000 employees (around the year 2000) to less than 5.000 now.
US employees are too expensive so the jobs are outsourced to low-cost countries whenever possible.
The people left are now under a lot of pressure to somehow get things done.

All of these cons create a very toxic environment, sadly.

    Advice to Management

None. I don't think they want to hear any.

    Pros

A global corporation with some great people. Lots of vacation time, holidays, and a great facility

    Cons

There is so much management (people getting large bonuses counting revenue) putting tremendous pressure on those that dig for gold ( sales) it makes the role undesirable.
I knew of five individuals that had heart attacks while I work there.

    Pros

Flexible work environment. Work with very talented, hard-working engineers. Generally use latest technology and tools.

    Cons

Management (especially at the highest levels) has proven to be clueless. Outsourcing continues as new products and new approaches fail, so the bottom line can only be rescued by deeper spending cuts. Morale was terrific for many years (as the former Siemens company), but has been squashed by narrow-minded cuts. Average pay with miniscule 401k contribution. Can't imagine raises will be given for a long time.

    Advice to Management

Cash in your side deals with your outsourcing partners and turn the reigns over to someone with true vision.

    Pros

They have a great product set with better than industry functionality but they lack a critical mass necessary to make it a viable option in the market.

    Cons

They company is run by the accountants and attorneys. They have lost over 95% of their market share in the past 15 years and there appears to be no recognition of that mismanagement. They continue to lay people off to make the numbers work and they don't pay earned commissions as outlined in their comp plans. Avoid this heart ach and move on.

    Advice to Management

I would not waste my breath. They know what they want to do and their plans do not include you.
