I worked at Unilever full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Company Name
    Wonderful products in our category
Large organization that believes in sustainability - very proud of that fact
    Complex projects
Experience will take you on for other opportunities that will grow your career

    Cons

Truly depends on the team and I think overall Unilever is terrific but I decided to leave for the following reasons primarily due to my department culture:
    Limited work life balance
Being recognized for After the fact and not in the moment
    Aggressively micromanaged, little trust
Foul language in the office sometimes
lack of visibility getting to engage with senior leaders
Trying to make the department goals your overall career ambitions
    Just chaotic, lack of direction

    Advice to Management

There's a lot but I think it is heading in the right direction and I truly wish the Unilever team the very best. However, it was such a shame that there was no exit interview by HR. I mean, a survey?? Do honestly read them and take it seriously why many people are leaving the organization?

I worked at Unilever full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wide reach - brands used all over the world
Very flexible hours - encourages work from home

    Cons

Poor leadership from Directors - low EQ and insecure, not able to support star performers adequately because of these

    Advice to Management

Train and coach your leaders. The ones who need it most will never ask for it. Your HR Group will have to initiate it.

I worked at Unilever full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible/agile work hours depending on your team
    - Company has a great social mission, unfortunately it doesn't translate to the
    - Working on huge well known brands
    - A lot is asked from you which gives you an opportunity to learn a lot in a short amount of time

    Cons

The company is going downhill fast, I wouldn't return unless they do some serious overhauling on their business strategy. Short sighted cost savings initiatives are killing the culture and will continue to drive employees to leave. With all the opportunities in the NYC area, you would be a fool to stay with the sinking ship.

    - Terrible retention; probably due to everyone having to double hat with no promotions or increase in salary
    - Not much room for advancement. Management expects you to stick around in the same role with negligable raises for years, even if you are doing a good job
    - Pay is not great for NYC area. Company will short change and in some cases stiff you on your already small bonus
    - They make employees that live in NYC pay to ride the shuttle to work

    Advice to Management

Fix the culture and promote and pay people you are asking to double-hat. Take care of your talent and people will stick around. Ask yourself if it's worth treating your employees terrible for a very small return.

If you want to know what is going to happen to the company by trying to act like you have already been bought by 3G, look at what people are saying about Restaurant Brands International and Kraft-Heinz; that's where Unilever is headed

I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

-can move around and have really diverse experience/development without leaving the company
-flexible workplace: work from home, flexible hours
    -smart and fun people
-CEO has strong vision and sustainability focus that is felt throughout the company
-real business ownership/responsibility at entry level

    Cons

-size can cause the company to get in its own way re: talent management and upward mobility
    -lots of internal selling/alignment
-very corporate feel: lots of acronyms, processes, systems, etc

    Advice to Management

compensate and promote talent when deserved, and think about ROI to fix talent retention strategy and talent acquisition. these are fundamentally broken in NA office and creates lower morale/productivity for employees that want to stay, and pushes talent out the door

I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

agile working, aspirational external goals set by ceo...that's really about it

    Cons

no opportunity for advancement, political, culture is terrible and creates nasty and unhealthy competition causing people to leave, everyone double hats because of so many vacancies but not compensated or rewarded at all. people are beyond frustrated or have already left and are loving their new companies. also maybe give health benefits if not bigger salaries/ bonuses.

    Advice to Management

ask yourself why people are leaving so quickly. get a clue. fix the culture. fix the pay and benefits and people might stay, but no job is worth this headache and unnecessary stress
