Spend more time on leveraging employee strengths rather than how they compare to others.

    Pros

Especially great training, good for folks early in their career who want to learn quickly.

    Cons

Not for MBAs who are ambitious and want to own. Highly political, especially with friction between Global Brand teams and US Brand teams. Lots of work for work's sake.

Very little autonomy to be innovative or creative.

Senior leadership is almost all international. Very few Americans at the top.

    Pros

Corporate vision, global leverage, high percentage of great co-workers, flexibility, a ton of experience learning opportunities.

    Cons

Non stop change in and inconsistency in expectations and organization, mixed messages on performance, unbalanced workload, minimal work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Too many short term wins lead to longer term headaches. Design goals and projects with a vision to be sustainable to business and processes, not just one and done. Do a thorough assessment of talent and leadership, including a balancing of work.

    Pros

Lot of directions you can take. Many great people to learn from. If you have personal goals you can make it in this size of an organization. Money is also good for the area.

    Cons

With a big organization you can be looked over. You have to make things happen on your own. No one is going to hold your hand and show you the way.

    Advice to Management

    Believe in inhouse talent

    Pros

    some overall company pros:
    agile working
    strong brands
    company store
marketing folks get to go to some really great events
    passionate about sustainability
there are 'events' that go on often in the main building cafeteria - informative and you can often get products or discounts
pretty good benefits - though each year health insurance premiums went up because of the amount of claims submitted

    Cons

people seemed to be always strung out, i'm a very low stress person but it can easily affect you negatively
it seemed like several folks put work before family/life - also can negatively affect people
UFLP has more opportunities, people were asked to 'retire early' so that they can make room for their positions
i had a difficult working situation and i've attempted numerous times to communicate this to leadership and HR - i really hope they took my advice to heart during my exit interview

I have been working at Unilever full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work environment, professional, with nice facilities. General atmosphere is pleasant and productive utilizing Agile work spaces. Good benifits, Great Cafe, free coffee, tea. Management is supportive and there are opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Very Small Salary increases, emphasis is on marketing and cost cutting not innovation. Pressure to meet sometimes unrealistic deadlines. Advancement opportunities exist but very competitive. Very large company and sometime the right hand does not know what the left is doing so there can be a lot of wasted effort.

    Advice to Management

Innovate more and they need to listen to the lower ranks who are in the trenches.
